Hello to all. Got a question dealing with the trans (727) on my J20. If the truck sits for any lenght of time (anything over a couple of days) the 1-2 shift is really slow and the 2-3 shift is almost as slow. After the truck has been driven for a few miles all seems normal. Doesn't do this if driven daily. Fluid is full and bright red. Think this is a linkage problem, out of adjustment or hanging up? Any ideas would be most helpfull, thanks

Could be the filter.

the 727 is set up so the converter drains back into the pan when the eng is shut off and is dosent pump until you put it into gear or neuturl so when you get in the truck and start it up and try to drive off it slips and takes awhile for it to act normal if when you start it after it sits for a couple of days you put it into neutral and let it warm up a little it will run fine and the bands adjustment will last longer there was a kit sold by gil younget (mr transmission) called the no yo-yo kit that fixed the problem it had a small plug and you had to drill the valve body but it fixed the slip/start problem

The truck shifts from Park to 1st or reverse fine. Does it still sound like the converter draining?

yep. it needs to pump fluid to shift gears properly. try running it it "N" for a while before yuou take off and see if it shifts ok.

it won't pump any fluid in park.
