i had this idea that may a dry sump oil system might help with oil starvation prollems encountered on extreme off camber spots and ascending/descending very steep hills. it causes me much stress to be inching down a very steep drop off with the oil light glowing and the pressure gauge reading a big fat ZERO.

despite my performance influenced automotive past,i ahve never messed with this type of set up.

ur thots?

snorkel/dual batteries/onboard air/"custom" convertable
3 inch body lift/mostly stock suspension/"modified" fender openings
custom front/rear bumpers and brushgaurd

T18/dana-spicer 18 with drum E brake and PTO, swap very soon
widetrac offset dana 44s with clearanced center sections and rear discs very soon
BIG tow truck PTO winch and full roll cage install shortly thereafter
4.0 aquired-4.5L stroker someday...

now we can do some 'wheelin!

While a dry-sump would certainly be nice to have (and a fortune to install), an oil accumulator would probably involve much less hardware, yet give you a pressure reserve for those downhill moments.

with a dry sump you have to have scavanger pumps to suck the oil out of what little sump the special oil pans have then you need a large oil tank mounted at a remote locatoin and the design must be such that there is no oil aerotion. the plumbing is quite involved and the setups are expensive. An accusump will do what you want for about $150. OR you could do what I did and salvaged an accumulator from an old hydraulic machine (in this case a blow molding machine) and plumb it in. Use a 12v valve that is turned on and off with the key and it will also act as a preoiler to bring the oil pressure up befoe starting motor. The sumps are good for about 30 seconds of oil pressure if there is no oil being picked up by the pump.
