I would guess the best source of info on 258 hop ups would be
from the guy's on the CJ forms. There is stuff that goes though
here on 258's but most FSJ's came with V8's so we talk about
what we know most about.

Check out this site: http://www.cliffordperformance.com/home.htm
My first two FSJs had 258 engines with two barrel Carter carburetors. I never actually bought any of Clifford Performance's stuff, but they ONLY do 6 cylinder engines, including the AMC 258.

There has been several posts on carbs for the 258. Most of them have been about the weber so you may want to search for that. I can tell you that the weber combined with the ignition upgrade has made a world of difference in my cherokee.

I had a 258 in my Wag. I got it running well with a rebuilt older model non-computer controlled Carter BBD.

You can also run a standard 2bbl Motorcraft/Holley, like a Motorcraft 2100/2150 on the 2bbl 258 intake manifold. You need an adapter.. Part # TRD-2086 from Summit Racing, $12.75 last time I checked.

Another tip: You might get more helpful responses if you named the topic something to do with 258s and carbs, instead of "Observation".

Ah, to promote the "other forum"...
Why don't you check on JeepForum.com and choose the "CJ" column, there have been plenty of posts concerning carbs for the 258 (there is a particularly interesting post by yours truly redface.gif , telling all about my 2150 swap into my CJ).
Do a search for "2150" or "2100" and you should come up with a variety of posts.
Hope this helps.
