I am going out to my 77 Cherokee parts truck tomorrow to get a few items. I was thinking of removing the fenders , anything I should know before I start? Does the grill have to come out first? Are there any bolts that will not be apparent?

Thanks

There are bolts inside the front valence behind the marker-light and behind the headlight, which you have to remove the grille to access. Then a couple in the fenderwell, some at the bottom by the rocker-panel, some inside the door, and then some by the hinge for the hood.

Yes, there are a few hidden fasteners that will make things difficult if you don't see them at all at first. Also, I recommend the door(s) come off to make getting the fenders off easier. You need to swing them out to get the angled front portion off without bending the fender.

I removed the headlight to get my fender off. Its easier if you do I guess, but I had no problems getting it of and the new one on. This was the pass side only on a 78. I opened the door enough to get the bolts, but did not remove it. Everything else was in view and easy to remove.

One more thing.... I found it dang near impossible to remove the fenders ( without tweaking) without removing the doors..

Once all the bolts are out (including the rubber hood stops in the middle of the fender)... doors off... take the rear of the fender out away from the body and push forward to clear the lip of the front valance... you will thank me later.. ;)
