i used to run a pto winch from a tow truck in the rear of my GW,powered by a rear facing PTO on a spicer 18 transfer case. im not running it now cause i kept blowing up spicer 18s and havent assembled a more bulletproof tranny/transfer case that i have a PTO for. :(
step one is find a PTO that fits your transfer case. you really want it there instead of the tranny,as the tranny PTOs only have 1 direction and speed is only variable via engine RPM,unless you get a rare "designed to run a winch" PTO.
a transfer case PTO will work with the case in neutral, and will let you nave 4 winch speeds(assuming a 4 speed tranny) plus a power out(reverse)
from there you just need to make a solid attaching point for the winch, and build a drivesahft to spin it with carrier bearings,u joints, chain and sprockets,or whatever.
the question you just posted is somewhat broad, hence the somewhat non-specific answer.
there are some pics of my old setup here:

but be forwarned the pop ups can be a pain if you dont have some kind of blocker. at least thats what im told ;)

I thought of something similar for my M715. Maybe I could run the line under the Jeep to winch it forward, but I was afraid I could end up "pretzelizing" my frame

Truck M715, Trans 4 spd Allison Auto. Transfercase NP 205. Rockwell axles
The winch is a 10,000 off a M211. The winch now sit in front of the truck but I would like to replace it with a 16,000 elec. warn to save some weight on the front end of the truck.
