View Full Version : bizarre radio-type unit - LoJack?

while trying to get the tailgate window to work yesterday, we discovered a strange looking electronic unit behind the interior panel driverside. It was clearly put in there a long time ago, as the duct tape is dried out on part of it, and stickier than a 4 year old at a summer carnival in other places.

This thing has what looks like an antenna wire coming out (thin with white plastic sheathing and not attahced to anything), a 12v line in and a back up battery.

I'm pretty sure this thing isn't factory, but aAs this is my first late model FSJ (it's a 91), I'm not able to say for sure.

Any thoughts?

Anyone know how to ID a thingy by it's FCC ID?

LoJack used to be sold to recover stolen cars (they may still be). In the event your car is stolen the unit can transmit it's location to the people at LoJack or Police etc to find where your car was taken.

Oh.. you could have fun with that:

Get the code, activate it, hide the unit under a local cop's car, call it in stolen...

Okay, probably a bad idea... smile.gif

Speaking of postage....why not put it in the mail, we'll send it back and forth and see how long it takes them to arrest one of us?

Cool?
