My Jeep came with a 360, but it has a 401 in it now, I know they used the original 2bbl carb and manifold. Not sure what heads they used. How can I identify the heads? Is there a reference chart somewhere? would the 360 and 401 heads be the same? same chamber sizes, etc?

If you are luck enough to find a set of early 360 heads they are the small chamber type with the 50 cc chamber volume. Anything after 1971 had the 58 cc chamber. The later 401's had slightly bigger exhaust valves at 1.68 with the 2.02 intakes.
Also more important is the fact that heads after 1972 had hard valve seats for use with unleaded fuel. The other major difference is the bridged pivot rockers that appeared in 1973 I think. They are fine for mild motors, but for anything HP you need the earlier GM style rocker set-up

Mild would be a streetable 360-401 up to 350 Hp. Compression up to 10.0 to 1, no roller cam, street performance below 6000 RPM, general street and towing use. If you want an all out HP motor for racing or extreme off road, then the earlier rocker set-up would allow for more valve lift as well as allow the use of roller rockers

So I guess the stock rocker setup will do. Thanks!
