View Full Version : Alcan ?, possible problem...

So I got the Alcans that used to be on whitefoot, Andrew's old wag. After looking at them last night, I noticed that one mainleaf is slightly tweaked. This could have happened while GlennTX owned them, not sure. Anyway, I'm not mad or anything, just wondering what to do about it.
The "tweak" isnt a real bend, but it separates differently from the pack than the other mainleaf, so it is noticible... Should I cut a wag main leaf and put it above it to keep it from bending worse, or should I just use Wag mainleafs? They are only 2" alcans, I think a wag ML should work. What is alcan's warranty policy, anyone?

Could be from when Dobosh rolled the rig....... ;)

Those are custom leaf packs built especially for the weight of the rig. you could do that but you might comprise the overall feel of the pack. why not wheel it till it presents a problem then replace when necessary. do they look abnormal under vehicle weight?

I was nervous to put them in until I got a better opinion on them. I called Alcan, he said put 'em in and if it bends they'll work with me on new ones. It's probably not a big deal, I'll just slap 'em in. If it dies, I'll throw in wag leafs.
I'm going to leave work early today and replace the bushings in them so I can slap in the D60 this weekend. Guess I'll have to order a steer arm and make a drag link.

If it's bent a little bit it will eventually break. I bent the main leaf on the drivers side one time and it broke about 4 or 5 trips later. Alcan made me a new main leaf for $40 shipped to my door. I figured that was completely worth the money since it really freshened up the pack. I don't know how bad it's tweaked but that's something to consider. Breaking a main leaf on the trail raises all kinds of hell. Those springs are awesome so I wouldn't put a wag leaf in there. Just drop $40 and get a new main made.
BTW, I can't believe those are still kicking around. If they could only talk, the trails they've seen ;)

I know, talk about a small world. They've been in the IFSJA family a long time. Do you remember any of the info on them like spring rate? Or should I just send the good ML to Alcan and have them reproduce a pair?

No, I think I just sent them the broken leaf and they made me a new one based off it.

I looked at it again this weekend, it's not as bad as I had originally thought, I'm going to run it for now. I'll carry a waggy ML in case I break it, and if I do, i'll get a new pair from alcan.
