Thanks for the help finding body mounts for my rig. I've got a set coming from ESPO next week. I've installed body mounts on other vehicles but never a FSJ. Has anyone who's done it run into any surprises that I can expect? I soaked the bolts with Blaster already.
Thanks,
David

Did the body mounts come in a kit or did you buy them individually? I have a '67 and I need 14 mounts but all kits only come with 10 or 12. Thanks

I also need 14 pieces for my 88, that's if I've found them all. I haven't gotten it yet so I'm not sure, I guess I should have asked. I'll let you know as soon as I receive them. I contacted them at Springsnthings@aol.com and they responded the next day, I think they're closed next week. All they have is poly replacements for $95.00.

I did the poly mounts from ESPO and they are great. I ended up buying new flat washers (body washer type) from the dealer though cuz half of the thickness was rusted away on the original ones.
It's not a kit per say. They just put a set of 10 in a generic box. You may have to specify that you need 14 of'em. Sounds like your getting more than I did cuz I only payed $65.00 for my set.
Are you installing a body lift also? It's a great time to do it since you'll have it apart and you will get all new bolts. Some may break or strip out during removal. I installed a 3" Performance Products Bodylift which is really nice.
What to look out for. Well I had to cut the body fram open in 4 areas to remove nuts who's welds broke. Two behind front wheels and both rear mounts. The nuts themselves aren't welded. There is a bracket welded over the nut that supposed to hold the nut into place. It didn't on 4 of mine.
The problem with sprayng penetrants on the nuts is that it's hard to get it on the threads. If it feals like they are going to strip out, stop and drill a hole for better access to the threads and spray them for a couple more days. Its better than air chiseling open the fram. I truly believe that I wasn't getting the WD-40 in where it needed to be and that caused me the trouble of opening the fram. A good 1/2" hole drilled nicely next to the nut would look better that what I had to do.
I don't know exactly how yours look on a 88. The information I've given you is from working on my 83. Good luck.

what is this Blaster stuff? is this the stuff that actually breaks the rust(ferric oxide) molecular bond thru catalytic action? or is it just another glorified penetrating oil? this spring im looking to replace the y pipe without haveing to replace the studs cause i sheared 'em off.

Thanks Irbob. Drilling a few holes ahead of time sounds easier than trying to fix them after the welds break. I'll do it this weekend since the mounts won't be here until next week.
I wasn't going to install a body lift but it does sound like the best time to do it. I was really wanting to put a 2-3 inch spring lift on it. Has anyone used springs from ESPO? They said they had +2 inch springs for $420.00 for the set. Could I clear 31 x 10.50's with this setup?
I use Blaster on everything. It's readily available at most of the parts stores here. The can actually says it's used for engine tune-up, carbon removal, etc. via the carb. It does say it's a catalyst, everyone I know uses it to loosen rusty parts.

I run 31x10.5 on my wifes 85 Wag and they only rub the front left leaf spring under a full lock right turn. Other than that they don't rub at all.

Hey porkchop, I got the body mounts. There are 24 pcs in the box, 12 complete mounts. I think that's right for my 88 because the two above the wheel wells are just rubber bumpers that rest on the frame.
I'll post a note when I get around to installing them. I'm free next weekend but I think I'd rather take my TJ on a trail ride/campout with the local clubs. Always playing when I should be working.

I am in the middle of a body lift right now and reached out for advise from Riverbeast and a few others.
After breaking two bolts and turning two welded nuts, I had to come up with a better way.
I drilled a 3/4" hole near the welded nut and sprayed penetrating oil to ease things up a little. Then I inserted a large screw driver to hold the nut in place and eased it out with a long breaker bar attached to my socket. It's worked so far for me on one body mount. When I am all done, I just fish-plate weld over the hole.
Just my $ 0.02

Dave,
With my setup (see sig) the wheel wells eat my tires without rubbing. I like it. http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Bob,
Thanks, your Jeep looks great and the engine bay looks spotless. Hopefully with some work I can get mine the way I want it soon. If you haven't already been told that triangle thing looks like a mount for a siren that goes with an alarm.

Dave,
Your welcome. The engine bay doesn't look that good right now. Something about crashing through mud holes that makes it look diffrent.
I've come to the conclusion that bracket was once holding onto some kind of speaker.
