ok I am ready for my cam pick I want to use the summit cam sum-8600 I want opinions
will it have great vacuum?? this is going in my new yet to be installed
.030 over 360 with oiling mods in valley and for dist drive gears, all clearances as per amc performance, new factory timing cover blueprinted out of amc performance, main stud kit, chamfered oil holes in crank and doubled main bearings for full groove oiling, head studs,.035 steel head gaskets, double roller chain, tfi coil and big cap upgrade, milled stock heads 55.5CC and polished port roofs with 3 angle job and valve unshrouding, gasket matched with a 1969 amx cast iron intake slotted to fit with a Carter 625 AFB and a recurved dist with all centrifigal adv in by 2800 rpm. but my GW has a NP229 and vac disconnect D44 and3.31 gears so I want high vacuum and lots and lots of low end!!! plus decent fuel economy at 2300 rpm highway cruise. or do I use the cranne cam with 456/484lift 205/215 dur @.050 and with 107/112centerlines???? What do you all think? :D :D :D :D

With a lower centerline you will get more low end power. A high centerline builds more compression at higher rpm's. Many people in the IFSJA have gone with the 8600 and I haven't heard any complaints. I just bought one but I'm not done with the engine yet.

From what I understand with my very limited knowledge, there is no "great" cam for fsj's. If you really want to gain alot of power, you'll have to sacrifice "alot" of gas. There isn't a very large noticeable difference between most cam designs on the market, unless you want to get a really severe cam. Kinda like it would really matter if you were looking to squeeze every last bit of everything out of it, but for good all around performance it, seems like splitting hairs, if you ask me.

And for what it's worth, I wouldn't worry too much about producing alot of vacuume. Just about any cam you can buy will produce more than enough vacuume. Sounds like you've got the same setup as my 84, and it doesn't really require alot of vacuume to keep everything engaged.

In my oh so humble opinion, you'll get all the gains you are looking for from your carb/gear/ign setup. I did the tfi, and have seen a noticeable gain in performance.
