I call this FSJ Henge at Yankee Boy Basin

http://frontier.net/~mystkblu/06ouray/giterdun/fsjhenge_yankeeboy.jpg

These are our friends who join us for big alpine meadow adventures. This day we spread Butterscotch's ashes at the top of this hill inside the basin. Her and Bones now run free above the treeline chasing picas and marmots and sniffing the beautiful summer flowers. Thanks to all who joined us on this.

Apologies go to Don and Doris S who I mixed signals with and they were not present in the flesh, but I am sure they were in the Spirit.
So, we finally have some pictures to share. Our digicam is pretty much a POS now. Krista shot a bunch of 35mm pix that we had Wally World process on CDs. So, I will be getting some new stuff hosted up here before long. When the site comes together it will be dedicated to my old friend Butter because she was one helluva Jeepin Dawg. :thumbsup:

Here is the newest FSJ Dawg (Luna) in our home. She is a rescue, has been with us 2 years and has been a challenge. Ask Ralph. I am trying my darndest to be patient with her because she is such a coward. Especially when the thunderclouds build up. Krista has the best patience with her and I am very grateful for that. She is a purty good dog when she ain't hiding under the bed. :o

Flint I was glad to be there, thank you for allowing us to join you. You are right Luna I think is short for lunatic one minute she was barking at me the next she was trying to climb in my lap to be petted. We'll wait for your pics to get processed and put on the board.

Hey that first pic looks like it could be a cover to a Who (and I don't meen world health organization) album or something.

Kinda sorry I took off and went to Govenors instead.

Yeah, we know about Luna. But no problem.

Or pee-ing on it:eek:

Flint;

... Sorry we missed hooking up with Y’all. I was guessing you had gone by and we didn’t heard you honk the horn. So we drove out to the KOA and you were gone so then we waited a mile or two up Imogene till nearly three PM.

... Before too many years the FSJ drivers will be so late (recovering from devouring agave pulp) we’ll be having night runs. :eek: I had planned a two truck night run over Black Bear back in the 90’s with a friend but we never got it done.:D

Have a good one and http://sc.groups.msn.com/tn/BC/C2/JEEPTECH101/1/b.jpg (javascript:tn_click_pic(11, 108, 160)) “Jeep Jeep!” CUL.. Don S..

Don, I think a night run is a great idea. Reliable rigs only, tho. :)

I mentioned it, but I think I got feedback implying that it might be foolhardy. Aw, shucks. What's life without a little adventure?

Maybe next year. Jason?

Hey Don - We got caught up in a short run to Red Mountain mining town with everyone and planned to be back by 2PM. We had never been there and were like kids checking out some new chocolatey candy. ;) By 2:20ish we saw Matt back in Ouray and found we goofed by not stopping by and letting you know. Or wait, maybe we didn't see your Frontier when we went by at 11:30ish. I fergit. But I accept the fault on lack of communications. OK? :o In any case, we took care of ole Butter and she is free of earthly bondage.

Now those comments about night runs. Oh wait, lemme back up... Every summer we have done this Ouray thing, everyone is so excited to meet and jaw with thier online friends, we yakity yak like a bunch of school yard kids and wanna show off our special mods and FSJs... Or is it henhouse chickens? Whatever... Then, before you know it, we are racing off to get on a trail. Maybe we need a big fella (Jason?) to act as a bouncer to get us kicked out of the KOA by 8:30 so we don't get caught up on the mountains in a wild arse rain and hail storm. (course, that has never happened) Then we can take more time to see the mountains then yakity yak in the afternoons at the local bar or KOA or wherever. Just a thought. :alc:

Now for night run talkin... I am not too crazy about doing a night run to Black Bear when the chances of afternoon/evening storms are present. Those chances typically run from early July to late August. That goes for Imogene too. But something more mellow to get comfortable with night running the San Juans. I think it would be cool as all git out (my Tejas talk comin out) to run up to Clear Lake off South Mineral trail at night. :whistle:

Oh, and that agave pulp. I dunno how many more times I can do THAT again. Laying on the ground HOOTing into the trees and bench racing the stars. At least Joe was off that night. :thumbsup:

I probably won't be staying at the KOA the WHOLE time next year. Maybe one night (share with someone?) so I can shower. You guys weren't kidding about Joe being ANAL! OMFG! he told us we were too loud before the sun went down... D**N!!! The whole KOA nazi thing just kills it for me. Hopefully I will have my truck-bed trailer ready and be able to setup camp up the hill somewhere and come down to see you guys for some amount of time each evening at the KOA. Then you guys can just call me on the CB when you are in town and I will mobilize.

EDIT: That would really sweat'n the deal for me... idle Brutus out of the KOA... singin' the cherry bomb song as I one-finger-wave at Joe at about 11:30pm! It's not like anyone in their $500,000 RV could hear anything outside!

I wouldn't want to try a local bar... if a medium sized sub is $9.00... I don't want to know what a bottle of beer runs in Ouray!

I will be glad to start a thread about having Two camps. Or more...

One for those who want KOA convenience (what's that eh?). Joe is a PITA, but we do have the sweet spot figured out for campfire sillyness now at 47D.

One that goes Backcountry. Krista and I are ready to go Backcountry. Thinkin somewhere around Sunnyside Mill and Eureka area as a easy spot, but a lot of people there usually. Or go further off the grid.

So, lemme talk more with the Jeepstress and we can start a thread. Then again next year when we get closer to the 45th Anniversary of the first FSJ! :thumbsup:

There is a big spot just to the south of Corkscrew cutoff close to old Ironton townsight, lots of room, some others have found it as of late tho. Would have to just take our chances to be open, thought about that for next yr ourselves.
Eureka is usually full most of the summer anymore.
Cannot think of any other place that is big enuf for a number of fsj's, tents, campers at the moment, will dig around in my mind for some place we could go. Won't take much digging, it's a little area and mostly open space thanks to the alcohol!

I didn't mind the KOA, and Jason, you were gonna save me $50 next year, and here you go spoutin' about roughin' it.

I guess I could take a shower in the woods with one of those solar showers. They work well if the sun's out, but if it's not, a shrinkage problem develops... And if I don't have an enclosure, it could be a scary sight. Sorry.

Here is Bones and Butter cruising in the back seat of my GW when they were THE FSJ dawgs in our home. What a pair! :)

Flint;

... What a great shot of Bones and Butter!

kennyH;

... Here is a very light weight shower/toilet/dressing cover. It has a full length zipper. The hanger and frame were made with aluminum from old lawn chairs and has aluminum chain for hanging it from a tree or vehicle. Two stakes keep it from blowing around.

... If you camp at Eureka you will need something like it as there are no trees to hide behind. Been there, done that!
Some people camp just below Animus Forks Ghost Town because there is an out house there.

Well if your wife is going next year... you won't have much of a choice between the KOA and roughing it. Hell... you never know... I might have a wife (possibly a honeymoon :D) by Ouray '07 and I won't have a choice either!!! Stranger things have happened.

I was thinking of coming down like wednesday or thursday and paying to share someone's site to use the facilities and then back to the hills I go.

I just know that I am/was setup for "roughing it" and instead I paid for a site that didn't need (except for the shower) and barely used. Just feels like a waste to me.

And I thought the teeth just made me look more like the typical FSJ guy. You can't see it in the picture, but Doris was giving me a little pinch on the posterior. She was just teasing though. I wish people wouldn't do that unless they really meant it.

I don't doubt it..... Dorris can be a bit "suacy" when she wants to be. How do you think she's kept Don all these years?????? :D

Thanks RedBluff. It is always hard to let one go... I had a catahoula mix once. She stayed with her ma when we divorced back in 99 and is still kickin around. She has a blue eye, like this crazy lab mix we have now. Her name is Luna(tic). :D

oh yeah, cats are good to have around too... they just don't ride in FSJs very often.

You might appreciate this too. We took Bones to Yankee Boy on his last FSJ ride in 2004.

Finally got all our files restored to the new PC we got last month. While working on some Ouray stuff tonight, I came across this. Excellent rainbow in the canyon coming back down from Yankee Boy in early June of 2003.
