Hi there,

does anybody know where to find a new or used but working cable for the low range reduction unit for my '74 wagoneer? Mine is in a really bad condition. Actually it is getting a full bath with diesel/petroleum. Hope this will help. But I really think it will not help anyway... So where can I find a new one? At bjsoffroad and teamgrandwagoneer I have not been lucky enough...

Those were used on 73-75 models and they are made of unobtanium. You might check with Zack at Z&M Jeeps though. He has some NOS stuff in his stash of Jeep goods. Otherwise, hit the wrecking yards. I had a good one here for a while but just sold it in May. You might look into using the flag shifter from a 76-79 model. This is the lever mounted just under the front of the seat on the left side of the tranny hump.

Mine is in good shape, except that I broke the T-handle off and had to weld a round loop from a big Home Depot eye-bolt onto it. When it goes, I'll be looking into converting to a shifter like in the later Wagoneers.

There is one in a yard here in a 73 J truck. He wants $40 + the ride for it. Agree with Flint on this one, the flag unit is a lot easier to find and less problems in the long run. PM me if you want the one out of the truck.

Stefan,
I am pretty sure I have one sitting in my garage. I don't remember where I got it but I know if moves back and forth. I will check when I get home tonight, but if it is there, you can have it for the cost of shipping. PM your phone number and an address so I can get a shipping quote.
Kevin.

get a shifter cable for a floor shifter for an auto tranny, they're available in several lengths, even custom lengths, with threaded ends, should be easy to rig up,and the "morse" cable is much stronger than what was used from the factory.

available from several different places, boat shops will have it too.

Someone in AZ was parting a '74 Cherokee and I spied teh cable in one of the pictures. Might want to check the for sale forum.

Better yet, convert to the later floor-style. These are easier to find and more relaible.
