I know of at least one of you with a 6.2/6.5 diesel in your FSJ, so lets give this a shot...

A friend of mine has an 82 Surburban with a 6.2, and thanks to gsmikie it now has a new trans in it. While we were dirty we replaced a cracked fuel pump (the mechanical "lift" pump). It started pretty quick biut then died about 10 secs later.
We've tried bleeding the lines at the injectors twice now, and the last time it may have just caught for a revolution or two but it just wont start...

We have the GM diesel repair manual and it sas that the injector pump is strong enough to pull fuel without the lift pump, but nothing about priming.

Any ideas ?

Best,
kris.

From what work "forklifts, mack, peterbuilt etc" I have done on them.. You have to bleed in order.. starting at pump.. then next item whether it be fuel filter or injector. Make sure your fuel filter/s are filled.
and just keep moving away from the pump one by one till you have them all bled.

Hope it's as simple as that. good luck.

I've replaced many lift pumps and injector pumps on the GM 6.5 Diesel, and never had a problem with priming. Just crank on it.

Make sure your secondary (final) filter is clean. A dirty filter WILL stop it from running. Also make sure it is not drawing any air into the suction side of the lift pump.
