Just picked up an 88 Gw for my wife for 500 bucks-interior is mint-outside has no rot but it is running SUper rich- we're talking 6.6 MPG...less than 100 miles per tank and it starts rough and idles really rough until it warms up. What should I do? Rebuild the carb? Replace the carb? Adjust something? Any ideas would be great.

All of my rich running problems have been related to the power valve(bottom right of carb). If its' blown, it will be dumping gas into the carb.
what is your timing and idle speed set at? are the plugs dirty?

IMHO, dumping that kind of gas is a stuck float. Smell gas?

Agree with all of the above, and my experience leads me to favor Tom's suggestion of power valve rupture. I don't recall whether those come with a carb kit, or are bought seperately.
If it's been that rich for more than a few hundred miles, expect a buggered cat-con. Good luck, and please keep us posted.
