View Full Version : TBI Adapter--Does This Look Right?

I installed Trasndapt 2204 adaptor to my stock 2V manifold.
Pics attached.
I did not expect it to fit perfect, but this looks quite restricted.
More worrisome, is the driver side looks substantially more restricted than the passenger side. This might make tuning hard?
At first I thought I had the adapter was on backwards, but the single stud goes in front.
Is this what people are running? Does it perform ok? Does it tune ok?
Thanks
Ken
That looks correct. And that restriction is why most people swap to a 4bbl manifold and use the adapter that doesn't restrict the flow. You still should get good low to midrange power but the 2bbl manifold will choke you off at higher RPMs. You can (and should) tune for that restriction but it won't do much harm besides limiting your higher RPM power.

I don't have that adapter on mine, but I do have a Pro-jection on a stock 2bbl manifold. It runs fine and has a little more power than the carb it replaced. You could stuff the manifold with rags and get to work on it with a die grinder to blend the transission. Then vacuum out all the metal. I used the square bore adapter w/ a piece of 1/8" plate to seal off the bottom of it against the manifold (because I could).:D

Thanks for the response guys. I did a little more research on the board and it seems the Holly 17-47 seems to be the way to go. Whne I first researched this about a year ago, the Transdapt seemed to be the way to go. No it seems the Holley is a better alternative,
I'm not good at the ginding thing but I do appreciate the advice.
Summitt will have the Holley here next day air.

I think from what I see there could be an issue with outter edges (left/right) from memory I don't think there is enough metal between your adapter and the manifond in that area. (I think the width to the upper manifold bore in that area is pretty thin, and it looks form the picture the bottom bore hole would not be over metal in that area)
What does the it look like without the gasket on ?
Looks like a invitation for a major vacumn leak.
The adapter I am using is angle bored to match up the differance in bore center spacing between the TBI unit and the 2150. So the above is not an issue.

Which adapter are you using?

Are you going to use the thick fiber insulating gasket between the manifold and TBI plate. I was told to use one on mine from the guy I got my TBI set-up from.

Home shop machine, but I think the ones from Summit are also angle bored
