anyone know of a locker that will work on the front axle of an 84 grand with the central axle disconnect. i have converted the axle to a manual hub set up for better reliability. some one help me out with a r/p for the axle as well, any d44 r/p work or do i need a special setup

you do not need anything special for R&P or for lockers. the CAD does not care what diff you use,so you could use anything from a lockright to a factory trac lock LSD.

the better question for your locker selection,is how will you use it,and what do you want it to do. not everyones driving style and trails require a full case detroit or an ARB.

only words of caution i have is that if you have your CAD still functioning in the factory manner,or if youve got it rigged with a switch,do not let it disconnect with the hubs locked if you get a clutch type LSD,as there will be no load on the disconnected side,so the clutches will be keeping the front diff and drivesahft spinning, instead of spinning the motion of the pass side shaft thru the spider/side gears, leaving the diff itself motionless. this is alot to expect from a set of friction clutches, and will wear the unit out alot faster than driving it with both lubs locked and the CAD connected. so if you get a LSD make sure the hubs are unlocked,or make sure the CAD is connected ;)

is this the axle with the disconnect on the pass side tube? or thru the cover?

Should be the one through the cover. The stub axle uses a circlip to hold it in place and not all lockers will accept it. I had to grind down the inside of the axle gear in my Trak-lok so it would fit. You could take out the shift collar and fork and replace the two piece axle with a one piece out of '80-'82,'85-'91.

If you want a locked front end, why not lincoln lock it? The axle already has a built in selector (the CAD). If you make sure it is engaged before hammering on it, I would think it would work fine...

That has been discussed here too, but I don't think anyone has tried it yet.
