Looking down the road I plan on swapping out my I6 for a 401 (waaay down the road after college and after doing a bit of saving).

One of the things I will have to do is find myself some V8 driveshafts... or will I?

I was wondering... moving that crossmember up for the V8 will leave me with about 6 inches to fill... possibly with a klune doubler (which is 6.5" long according to thier website).

Im thinking this way I can use my I6 driveshafts and have a really good excuse to get a klune unit.

So will a 208 stand up to a mildy built 401/727/klune beating or will it be too much? The rest of the truck is going to be 3.73 gears and either 33" or 35" tires.

The 208 will probably hold up, but your u-joints and such most likely wont.

Seems like it depends on what kind of use you give the truck. I've seen a driveshaft and ujoints fail behind a 360 on a tough trail (Golden Spike in particular). There's a guy in CFSJA with a 401 that has crazy power but he hasn't broken anything yet.

The KluneV will only make matters worse sending more torque through the drivetrain. But I would guess as long as you are soft on the throttle and avoid bouncing on rocks it might work ????

I hope to gain first hand experience soon. I have a 208 in now and hope to switch to 401 at some point in the near future.
