Harbor Freight has a u-join tool on sale and before I buy it has any onr used it? Opinions? Normally I would wait until I could afford a better tool, but I cant find many others to choose from. If it breaks I could still remove/ install the old fashioned way.
Thanks for your input

Don't waste your money on a u-joint tool. They are way to easy to do with standard hand tools. I use the same method in my shop as I do when I'm on the trail.

If so I wouldn't bother.
Save your cash for a real ball joint tool (it will do U-joints also).

I don't think I would buy the HF one either.
In the mean time a couple of right sized sockets, BFH, vise (or big C-clamp) will get you by.

I have the HF tool. I got it for $20 on sale (regularly $40). It works very well on the frozen joints. I've also used the BFH/punch method, too.

It was well worth the $20. It does ball joints, too if I recall.

Also got the $20 HF tool. Fortunately (I guess) I ripped my knuckle off at the ball joints on the trial less than a month later. It was a pleasure to use in comparison to the usual socket/c-clamp method, though still needed the occasional extra motivation of a proper BFH.

My assessment: worth it.

I have the HF tool. It works great. Sure beats waking up the neighbors at 11PM when you're getting the truck back together for the next mornings trail run!

I have the HF tool as well and it works great. All the guys in my Jeep club make sure I bring it on every trail ride. I still to this day do not understand how you can get a ujoint out with a c-clamp, especially when they are exposed to the funk and junk that we get here in the northeast.

I have the HF ball joint tool (the threaded 'C' style). It works great for ball joints. I can do u-joints with a hammer and vise much faster than with the BJ tool.
