View Full Version : What happened to TRUCKS! tv show?

Does anyone know what happened to the host of trucks tv show? I used to watch that show and although the host was a little goofy it usually was informative and he had some really cool projects. Its because of the special he did on the chreokee that got me curious about fsj's and now i love them. Turned on the tube last weekend and now they have the two screaming morons who spend all the time mugging for the camera and shouting into it. Was wondering if anyone knew what happened to Stacey David the original host?

Thanks for the link janie. I have to admit that i kinda miss him too alot of the projects he did had practical application for all four wheelers and the show was a fairly good source for interesting new products. It just makes me sad that the rtm productions thinks that every show has to be "extreme" and replaced an average joe with two thugs. I'm not to far outside their target audience age and i can't stand that show now.

"screaming morons who spend all the time mugging for the camera"

Yep! The loudmouth-look-at-me crowd. If you are otherwise-unemployable, go into acting or 'media'. Doesn't that sum up most everything on TV? I stopped turning it on 10-years ago and never regretted it.

Yeah i think stone cold steve austin should sue that guy for illeagally inpesonating him. Or at least for taking stupidity to new lows. As for the other guy i thought he looked familiar had no iddea that he was on power rangers but with two kids in the house i vaguely remember his face on one of their shows.

Hate the new show. Tried watching it once...never again.

Stacey was a little goofy, but in a cool way. He was a real guy doing real things to trucks.

I agree about the "need" for extremification on the Power Block. Very lame. Maybe if I was 17, uneducated, and fed beer and chili since birth....

A friend of mine acutally met stacey at the Fords at Carlisle show in last month. He was there giving a presentation about something. But my buddy got to talk to him and he said he was a really nice guy. He asked him "hey what is the grille for? (my buddy had bought a grille for a 70 torino) he told him what it was for, then he says " oh wow those things are cool. Nobody really builds them much. Hey, did you see that ranchero I had on the show?
My buddy says yeah. Stacey says "that thing was awsome". Then my buddy goes on to tell him he doesn't watch the show anymore since he left. he says "thats ok ive got another show coming out pretty soon so keep an eye out for it". He gave my buddies wife an autograph.

I thought it was pretty cool that he is pretty down to earth and would take time to have a converstation with a him.

Yeah the good shows are few and far between so when one disappears is really sucks. I dont want to start anything but i agree that xjs aren't really fsjs.:) But no reason to look down on a fellow 4xer who takes pride in his ride. Your description of Stacey is pretty much what i expected - someone more or less like us who just happpened to get a tv show. Speaking of the show has anyone seen the episode where he shows how to make homemade diesel fuel? Was wondering if anyone here had bought the kit and tried it.

Don't get me wrong please... I ain't down on XJs. They are very capable and real Jeeps. They just are not FSJs. That statement is a stab at FSJ Magazine, which used to be an awesome publication and today it sucks under the new ownership...

Carbs suck.

Actually, the engine does the sucking, the carb just attempts to meter fuel. Mostly unsucessfully in my case.

I agree... I hate carbs. :banghead:

I tried catching the "new" trucks show. Wow... More reason to watch Extreme 4x4 (otherwise known as "Try to split your attention between the rigs and the capable blond chick" show) I guess.

yeah i didnt really want to bash anyone, who knows for what those guys get paid maybe i'd act ridiculous too. But its a bummer that a show that used to be informative is now more worried about impressing the audience with their witless banter and how extreme/outrageous/buffoonish they can be. Maybe its tolerable with the sound off.

So I am not alone in my utter disdain for the new "improved" Trucks TV. I am looking forward to what Stacey has in mind for his next show. I hope he can do something that will cater to the somewhat more advanced grearhead. He could build monster trucks or MG midgets for all I care, just spare me another half hour of watered down "bling" being installed by poseurs! I am quite sure within the next few episodes, we're gonna hear "Dude you need a stall converter" or some such BS. The new Tucks might as well be on the Home Shopping Network.

Now, somebody mentioned the show where Stacey made his own fuel. Here is the website he plugged: http://www.freedomfuelamerica.com

I know one of the host for one of the power block shows, his wife works with my wife. They don't get paid that well at all, they were working 14 to 16 hours a day to get the projects done. Then they started getting the shaft on some other things. His partner has already quit over the crap going on and he will be on his own for a while. No wonder Stacy left trucks.

:funny:

I am also a fan of Stacey. Especially the later episodes. The beginning episodes of trucks were boring... like the "NEW and IMPROVED" trucks! of today. My favorite episodes were when he went out and flogged 'em in the mod and rocks! Especially the one where he built up that kids TJ in texas and then made the kid sit in the passenger seat while he covered him in mud! Gotta love that!

I can't wait for his new show to come out. He probably has a non-compete clause in his agreement with RTM that he can't have a trucks-type show for 1 or 2 years. RTM suits are a bunch of morons! Except for the guy who got the blonde to do Extreme 4x4... I want her to have my kids! and then fab up my bumpers/rollcage/welded spiders/tow trailer.

I dont blame Stacey for leaving. All the cool trucks he did ended up in a scrap yard or put on show never to be driven again.
The new guys suck. Who wants to watch the guy who used to be on the carpet cleaner commercials tell you how to modify you ride. You get no real infromation or at least nothing that the average guy can use if you dont have a $10,000 budget to throw around.

I watched an eposide the other day and they had this Ford truck with a NOVA front clip in it and they were bashing the guy who welded it up.Then after he got the grinder out he noticed that the welds were really ok and apologized on air to that dude.

I laughed for the rest of the show.

Yes Trucks is not what it was, heck not even in the same ballpark now. My friend told me some of the things about why Stacy left which I can't post here but I would of left too. This is what happens when a family member takes over a company. They are not honoring the orginal deals. Let the legal battles begin.

True enough but its easier to take than those goobers on trucks tv. I remember the first episode of trucks i saw and stacey was wheelin a lifted bright orange chevy extra cab in a field or pasture somewhere and he seemed to be lettin it rip and that hooked me. Also it was nice to see a quality build up get used the way it should. That bronco he did was pretty cool and im no ford fan.

He had Sgt Rock pretty much finished on his website last time I checked. I think it's pretty obvious that there was a disagreement about project choices. Trucks was the best of the Power Hour and it was because Stacey pushed for projects no matter the number of products you could sell/showcase.

I do have to admit that I checked out Trucks again and Project Old Skool is pretty cool. Honestly Stacey personally brought more to Trucks than any of the other hosts did to their shows. If a show can survive more on ratings than on the products that get showcased, which already happens in Overhaulin and others, then Stacey should be able to get back on the air.

Me too. I really wanted to see Sgt Rock up and running and then watch Stacey drive the ever loving pi$$ out of it. Those old Power Wagons are just to cool. I describe those two yahoos on trucks as "Product Whores". They spend more time advertising new products that no body cares about. If I see one more performance programmer I'm going to throw my pipe wrench through the TV. Stacey David would wrench on whatever cool ride he was building the whole show and then at the end of the show would showcase an actual cool new product that another builder could actually benefit from. "Goldberg" just seemed like he was trying to hard especially when it came to talking. Off camera he probably talks like Mike Tyson. The little guy on the show is actually a very talented guy just nobody will ever take him seriously just because he's kind of a dork. After seeing "Project Copperhead", the ever cool "Project Bargain Beater" Cherokee, and even the unfinished "Sgt Rock", I proclaim Stacey David "King of Trucks" and Jessie of Xtreme 4x4 Queen.

Are you talking about Lou Santiago? I talked to him once, he's looking for a Rambler to do a SC/Rambler clone on Muscle Cars. His partner only lasted 1 paint job on the show, though I have to admit the Camaro SUCKED. The guys were trying to be as rebelious as possible (flat back nose, using the base grill/taillights instead on the RS, using the never-seen 69 hood stripes instead of Z/28 or hockey sticks, painting the srtipes silver) but at the end of the day it was still a boring red Camaro with a 350. :(

Back in the day...probably 1990ish, the Trucks! show was hosted by some old country western star who cruised around in a Jeep Commanche pickup. He didn't do much work on stuff, but would go to the rancho factory and things like that. Does anyone else remember this? What was the hosts name?
