Finally getting around to doing something about the frame rust behind the gas tank. Noticed it over year ago when putting on the lift kit, had to drop the tank to get at the blind nut for the rear spring. There's not much rust, only on the bottom flange of the rail and behind the wiring harness, but visions of it spreading have been buggin me ever since. Plus, this project justified buying a needle scraper for my air compressor. :D

The plan is to scrape the rust/loose paint and paint with POR-15. Also plan to replace the hoses and track down the loose wires causing my gas gauge to be spastic.

Just wondering what else should be done while the tank is out and what others have done about that nasty liner between the tank and skid plate? Must have been a gallon of water trapped in it just trying to rust things away.

Thanks for any suggestions. If I can find some batteries for the cam, I'll post some pix.

I don't know if it's the right thing to do but I removed that garbage bag stuff all together.
I also POR-15'd both sides of the skid but my frame didn't have any rust behind the tank at all so I didn't do anything to the frame. I would suggect that you don't mess with the breathers in the top of the tank, you can easily break the plastic fittings or rupture the gaskets, try to remove the rubber lines elsewhere.
Wouldn;t hurt to POR15 the frame there while you are at it, that's all I can think of....

How about drain holes in the liner....
