This is my personal favorite... BJ's sells it. I will make a similar one someday...

I like those BJ's bumpers, however last time I checked they were backordered and not taking any more orders.
Hey Stuka, tell me about your rig, it looks like it has a stance I want mine to have. Are you running 35s, 6 in. lift, 15 in. wheels?
Stuka

6" lift, trimmed fenders, the tires are 34" tall, and yeah 15x8 wheels. Interco doesnt make a 35x12.50 TSL, they make a 33x12.50 which is actually 34" tall, and they make a 36x12.50.

I have a sort of related item. Could you also post pics of the back bumpers with tire carriers?

Thanks, I like it a lot :)
Its made with 2x2" 0.187 wall square tube. iT was easier to use stacked up 2x2 tubing for the center than to cut down and weld up 2x4 tubing, plus it was cheaper. It also only weighs in at about 80 pounds.

our backlog will be cleared out hopefully in the next two weeks, and our bumpers will be back online again.

Hmmm, wonder if I could fit my 12,000Lb Ramsey PTO winch on there....:D

for that, you need a behemoth like mine. 3"x4"x0.25" wall HREW rectangle, 3"x3"x0.75" shackle tabs all the way through, double-pass welded on both sides. 2"x0.25" wall round HREW tubes, to look like an ARB bumper but much beefier. It's not finished, I'll do a writeup when I get it done. The rear was done long ago and has proven the design, it's made of the same stuff. and yes, I can mash down aspens with it, btdt. :drivin: :fsj:
Oh yeah, beef is for dinner baby. :D

Brad... I gotta see this. I am still thinking of what kind of bumper I want on Brutus.
How do you double pass weld on both sides a 3" x 3" tab through 3" tube? On the inside?

Geeze, that thing must weigh 200 pounds!

The back one weighs in at about 110lbs, I'd guess the front to clock in at about 200, just like you guessed. We shall see, i'll weigh it before i put it on. Then add a winch to it and the weight will basically double. Yes, it's a pig.
Brutus, I'll do a writeup on the front when it's done. for now, here is a rear pic, crappy, but you can kinda see how it is done... before the rig rolls out again I will be changing the corners and tying in the sliders for the newly chopped 1/4 panels. I will also be putting a hitch into the main tube, and ditching the aftermarket reciever for more clearance... and yes, the sidepipes were just a mock up, they aren't gonna work, I will be changing it again to tuck it up, so nobody make any comments about them.

btw- a double pass is just making two weld passes where you would otherwise make one. The "front and back" refers to the shackle tab being made extra long so it goes all the way through both the front and back "walls" of the bumper tube. It is welded to the front side where it sticks out (the side you see) and it is welded on the backside of the tube where the shackle tabs protrude from the tube. The mounts are the same bar stock as the shackle tabs, and tied into 3/8" angle iron to mount it to the frame.
I welded it up with a 220v mig turned up hot, those tabs wont be moving EVER.

Good googily that thing was massive. Looked like something off a dumptruck.

Yep, I couldn't believe Ramsey when they told me the fairlead wasn't for a much larger winch, but the correct one. It's as heavy as the winch without the wire.

That looks sharp. How long did it take to build?
Since you already lost the doors and the tailgate, when do you lose the top?

I am pretty sure that what I am going to do is mount my winch like this:
http://www.bigscaryjeep.com/winch/below.jpg
This is a pic of Ethans (FSJ Guy) M715 website where he is using the Ramsey winch mount for FSJ's. The only difference I am going to do is I am going to mount the winch upside down under the crank pully. That way I don't block airflow to the radiator and my bumper will be in much tighter than is possible when putting the winch in the conventional location.

That mount better be strong.. It looks like that thing will catch quite a bit more abuse than a winch would normally have to endure...

about 9 years. ha. it morphed along the way, i like it. and its pretty light, minus the winch.
top aint coming off untill i can figure a way to put in back on for winter time. i like the way it looks with the top too much to loose it permantly.

I am picturing 1/4" plate with flanges on three sides. Two of the flanges will bolt into the frame and the other flange will bolt into the front crossmember and the front bumper combined. I think it is actually more efficient structurally to do it this way. Also it puts your winch down lower between the frame and axle where it is more efficient at getting you un-stuck, pulling up rather than down. The only downside I see to it is having access to the selection lever. I don't see this being much of a problem though considering I will have 10+" of lift and 38" swampers the winch will be between 3 and 4 feet from the ground. Also considering the frequency of use of that handle I don't think it will be a problem.
From there I was thinking that I would incorporate the fairlead into a skidplate of sorts to protect the winch. I will see when I get to that point.

Pretty basic right now. I have a 2" body lift so this will be sitting in the gap. The winch plate will sit in close to the grill, I have to notch the body. Tube work will follow, and some sort of brackets to mount to the frame ;). Although looking at the pictures and thinking I just thought, I wonder if the winch will fit with the razor grill?
