Steve;

... We would love to meet up with you like we did a couple of years ago. That is the best way to get to Silverton and Ouray from the east.
... The problem is that the 17th is two days ahead of our planned trip at that time/place. We will go back to the drawing board and re-think the plans. So far we don’t have any trail buddies like we used to.

... We would like to hear the travel plans of those that may be using I-20 through Ft.Worth and/or I-40 through Amarillo on the way to Ouray.

Yep, the upper rio is kind of out of the way for anyone west of Texas. That and the dynamiting of Wolf Creek Pass makes it even less inviting for Arizona and New Mexico travelers.

Don, as of right now my campsite is available for one more day so I could postpone leaving until the 18th.http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif

Steve;

... We could get there by late afternoon or early evening the 17th.
We can sleep in the back of our pick up then leave for Silverton when you are ready on the 18th.

... West Texans can get there via Santa Fe, Antonito, Alamosa, South Fork and Creede.

Just got the go ahead from work tonight to disappear for a while. Looks like I'll be doing route 60 through southern MO(Friday) to 64 in OK to the end of the pan handle (Sat), then either up through CO or over and up through NM. Sunday.
Gas estimate to get to end of the OK Panhandle is $300 :eek: Good thing I budgeted $1800 for gas alone.
Did I ever mention I love long road cruises..:drivin: Favorite trip was a 10,500 mile Van odyssey. Left KY in mid Nov. headed due North till we ran out of USA then veered left till we hit a big pile of Rocks. Treked our way down to Sin City then to the Sunshine State and back home,4 blizzards and a massive sunburn later, just in time for Christmas.:cool: I think I just wet myself...... I can't wait.. :fsj:

Tom - You are making the long haul this year me thinks... Gonna nab 47D or 47E from Dan or Jaime at the KOA? Be great to have you join us! :D

Don - It is good to see you and Doris are making plans for the trip. We will probably be at So Mineral camp site we were at last year on Monday 17th. Or, can we be talked into Stoney pass meet? ... We'll see! :thumbsup:

Don, I reserved my campsite for an additional day. Actually I have two adjacent campsites for a streamside meet I’m hosting with some anglers from CO, NM, and AZ. They’ll all be gone by noon on Monday so it will just be us. Only one of my campsites was still available for Monday. There’s plenty of room for you and if HOOT wants to come, that would be excellent. My campsite is on the stream at the confluence of the upper Rio Grande and Squaw Creek. Site #25 at Thirty Mile just before the Rio Grande Reservoir.

If anyone else wants to wheel Stony Pass July 18th come up and join us. We can meet up somewhere with Flint and Krista on the way down to Silverton. I’ll be heading to the KOA now instead of the Ridgway Lodge as my reservation at the KOA starts Tuesday.

I would like to do Stony pass. I am not really familiar with that area though (thanks for the link). I think Ken H and I will be in Saquache (north end of San Luis valley) on tuesday morning. What time is the departure from the Creede side of Stony pass? It will probably take 2 hours from my dad's place to get to Creede.

Sounds great. 10:00am departure from Thirty Mile campground will work. The campground is at the Rio Grande reservoir one hour from Creede. Take hwy 149 20 miles west of Creede and turn left on Reservoir rd fr520. Go about 18 miles to the campground.http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif

Steve, I forget how this works up there where you fish. Do you have to reserve those sites or are they first come, first served? Thanks! :cool:

viscacha

Three sites are non-reserve first come and all the rest need a reservation. Weekends require a two day minimum stay.

As of now,
The reserve sites available for Monday the 17th are 001, 012, 027, and 034.
The reserve sites available for Sun-Mon (2 day min) are 034. That’s it.
The only site available longer is 034 and is available from Sat the 15th-Thursday. http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif

viscacha;

... Steve, can we bring you something, like fresh eggs or ice?
We are just going to sleep in the truck... no cooking, no tent and no fire.

Flint;
Food for thought.:eek:
... You will be driving about 100 miles extra to the campsite by coming over Wolf Creek Pass and South Fork. Coming over Stony Pass may not save any gas or time but it's less traffic (think RV's), cooler and prettier.

CB Radio;

... Think we will use Channel 4. Channel 5 has been used by a lot of RV folks in the past.

CH 4, eye-eye! We can bring some extra farm fresh eggs! :cool:

Thanks Don, we will consider the options on getting there. Since we are doing a lot of work to Phoebe at the last minute, we will probably feel better taking the highway to shake down some things and have easier access to help if the poop hits the fan clutch... ;)

Don, I won’t need anything and you can share my fire, etc. I plan on breaking camp Mon night and I am sleeping in the back of the truck, too. There will be coffee and pastries for Tue morning and I should be all packed by early morning and ready to leave at 10:00am. I figure we could have a late lunch in Silverton around 1:30pm. Then on to Ouray and do it all over again. http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif

Well all right. Anyone else coming don’t get a site. It’s only $5 per extra vehicle and we have three camp sites now so we have room for a lot more fsj’s.http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif

Absolutely no plans for zip right now, I'll be in KOA Sat 15th, wife has to work that day so will come up that night, if anyone else there we can wheel around a bit, may meet ya coming down Tues, who knows.
No plans-no lists-
haven't used Draco except for little Moab trip which I didn't do much due to leakin tank, so why change fluids now?

I wasn't sure how big the sites were or how strict they are there. When I seen that only 3 sites were left I jumped on 12 in case more people show up. :rolleyes:

HOOT, your camp site has a maximum vehicle length of 80’ LOL. The info says only one vehicle per site but actually you can pay the camp host $5 per additional vehicle per night. I don’t know what their limitations are but I guess I’ll be finding out next weekend when up to 8 vehicles show up at my two campsites for a streamside meet. http://www.dakotacom.net/~jeepster/tipshades.gif

Could do that Monday though.
