Mine had and has the original bumper.

I bought a new "stripped down" J-10 in 1975 and it didn't even come with a bumper. Had to add it as an option.

Mine HAD the original bumper. I built my own custom 4" square tubing bumper with a receiver hitch built in and sold the factory bumper to a gentleman on this list up in Virginia. It gave me MUCH more rear clearance.

Mine had the rear bumper but it is bent up. The few J-10's I have seen around here all seem to have homemade ones.

Nathan, I thought I was the receiver receiver. Or was there also another bumper receiver up here in Virginia?

(Haha! Just humoring myself. Background here is that Nathan sold me his factory receiver hitch and spare tire carrier and I'm in Virginia.)

my 81 stepside has it but without the plastic end caps and my 82 j-10 has some crappy way to wide replacement bumper.

That way to wide crappy bumper seems to be the factory one on most I've seen, assuming it's the same bumper. My truck had a bumper when I got it, it was bent in the center and looked like someone grafted a way wide bumper to the truck, so I dumped it (literally). Since then I have seen several more of the same bumpers on some J-trucks. Oh well, it killed departure angle anyways, I'll be building my own anyways.

My 73 HAD the original step bumper on it, but it was rusted and smashed. Took it off 3 years ago when I did the resto and replaced the rear xmember. The 1/4" steel I used for the xmember works fine the for now. Even had a rice burner nail me and, besides scratched paint, no damage. I will be making a new tube bumper to match the front.

Mine came with a custom alum. diamond plate bed and bumper. The stock bumper was not included.

Bought my J-10 without a rear bumper, dug a rusty replacement out of the bone yard for it.

My other truck has no rear bumper either, but it has an old tow hitch attached to the frame.

my '85 j10 has a bumper. It looks to be original. Somewhat weathered and tweaked, but it was a farm truck for most of it's life.

Mine has the bumper on it, has the "Jeep Special Equipment" sticker on it, and is slightly bent up on the right side. Its going to be straightened and chromed in the future(its white now). Got it that way form the PO, so I guess im lucky too.

My J4000 actually has a factory bumper (or so I believe, I've seen the same one on several trucks) but one side is missing the "cap" on the end that kind of wraps around the rear corner of the body. Instead it has a flat piece there the size of the rest of the bumper. I someone wants to buy it for cheap, they can come and get it. Shipping would be nasty for everyone.

My '77 J10 has stock rear bumper. But it has lead a sheltered life. '64 J300 came sans bumper. It has been wheeled. ;)

I bought my 82 J-10 in the fall of 1998 and it had the original bumper but the ends were missing. I replaced the bumper last year and was luck it hadnt fallen off due to being so rusty. The plate that held it to the frame was only a 10 gauge at most thick, and broke when I took the bumper off. I built my "new" rear bumper from 4 inch channel iron with a nice hitch and safety chain catchers.

my 79 20 and 77or 76 10 both had the white step bumper, the 10 still does, its welded to some freakin' billy-bob redneck reciever hitch which is welded to some custom billy-bob redneck crossmember which of course is welded to the billy-bob redneck...oh, wait, its the factory frame rails... smile.gif it had some billy-bob redneck 18"x24" mudflaps(now gone!), billy-bob redneck roofmounted lights, and billy-bob redneck running boards (also gone!) great for getting mud all over your leg when you got out of it. wow, I really like typing "billy-bob redneck..."! :D the reason the jtruck may not have had a rear bumper, is because the factory sold them that way for years as an option.

My J20 had the remains of one, all bent and rusted out. Since I have a flatbed I just went bumperless looks alot better.

Thomas, your right. I think the guy who bought the bumper was from Penn. Although I am probably wrong smile.gif

I have a '85 J-10 with the original rear bumper. Badly rusted and bent though. I'd like to see some designes for bumpers that have been made. I would also like to make one for the front. I've seen some nice ones out there with mounts for winches and shackles. If anyone has a design that's not too difficult for the amature to take on I'd like to see it. I would like them to be strong and decent looking and functional too.
Thanks, Happy Easter

My '71 J2000 came to me with the origanal white step bumper. It's slightly tweaked on ds corner, so I tried to pull it strait with the winch on my YJ. It just kept dragging my YJ, four wheels skiddin', and the bumper did not budge, that tough SOB!

I have a WAY over-engineered one on mine. Has 1/2" plate steel in some areas. Looks good, but that durn thing must weigh at least 250#. Just got it off to do some rust work on the frame. Gonna have to call a couple of the neighbors over to help me get it back on. But, it's not all that serious -- they drink CHEAP beer.
