Hey everyone, I have been posting off and on about weird (to me anyway) vibrations that I have been getting in my '88 Wagoneer. I took the advice I was given last time I posted and checked the tranny mount, and the round one was lose. Once I tightened it up, the vibrations went away. Thanks! My transmission though is being extra loud when I put it into Reverse and sometimes into Drive. From my experience I know that these 727s are loud as hell and make all sorts of banging noises, but this is getting especially loud and can really feel it throughout the whole truck. I am wondering if it has come time to rebuild this thing or what? I have dreamt of replacing my tranny with a standard one...Anyway, do you guys think I might have to rebuild and if so, is this a huge project? And also, if I do have to rebuild, do you guys think its going to be that much more work to put in a standard transmission? Thanks again for your input, I wouldn't have a running Wag if it weren't for you guys!

First off, it would be WAY easier to rebuild your auto than to switch to a manual tranny, no question. The swap has been done, but unless you have the donor truck sitting right next to yours, you'll be scrimping and fabricating to get it to work right.

How many miles on the tranny? What's the fluid look like? What's your idle-speed? Banging into gear can be a too-high idle, bad U-joints (does it sound the same in 2wd and 4wd?) or a worn transfer-case.

I would adjust the bands first, change the fluid, and then see how it acts. If you do decide to rebuild the tranny, I'd be willing to walk you through it, if you buy the beer. smile.gif

Thanks for the reply Bob! I'll try and do everything you recommend first and then, if it doesn't work out I just might take ou up on the tranny rebuild guiding you are offering with all the beer necessary! Thanks again.
