I was looking at your drawing for the center console and I have a question. Why does the back of the console extend down 3 1/2" past the rest of the base? I'm going to be building 3 consoles soon and your drawing is very similar to what I had in mind except for that piece so I figured I must be missing something. Looks like a great project - you did an awesome job!
Thanks for the help.

Greg,
Thanks for the compliment. The way the floor is shaped leaves a gap in the back. The rear of the console ends up being suspended in the air. So I had to make the back piece 3 1/2 inches longer to reach the floor. I need to make some filler pieces to even out the sides. Eventually I'm going to make another console and improve a few things, like vinyl instead of headliner material. Also going to put gauges in place of the cb, and angle the wood plate that holds the gauges. I originally had the plate angled for the cb, but ran into floor clearance with the cb. Will probably put in rear vents and cupholders as well.
By the way your GW is what inspires me! Beautiful rig. I hope to have mine looking as good as yours someday.

Thanks for the compliment.
On the sides of that console, does it work to have the sides run a straight line to the bottom of the back piece or does it have to be shaped to fit a contour in the floor?
I pick up my $450 Cherokee from the body shop this afternoon and it doesn't have anywhere to put a cup, so I'm going to build something really soon.
Thanks for your help.

If you run the sides straight to the back(which I did) you will have a small gap on each side at the back. A contour at the back will hide the gap. I plan or fixing this on mine at a later date.
Having a place for a cup is great. Makes everday driving so much nicer.
