Lockers aren't good for towing. I got good feed back about that issue. What is the best L.S. unit? I'd like an aggressive unit that really aids traction. My project rig will not be seeing more than 50,000 miles in my lifetime. Clutches and spring packs aren't a great worry. But I was leaning toward the Detroit Tru-trac unit because I thought there was less to wear out and weaken.

Since repair bucks ain't a concern...
Auburn makes a LS unit that can be adjusted from totaly open to totaly locked - it's as aggressive as you want it to be - very strong unit.
Dana power-loc can be adjusted too by adding discs and is the strongest LS made by Dana.
Both units are full carrier units.
As far as I know, those are the only adjustable ones.
On the other brands you get what you get.
There are specs on the manufacturers pages as to what % of power to what wheel and when.
So, define your aggresive and go from there.

I'd go with the Detroit TruTrac. It's gear driven so there's nothing to wear out and I'd say it's the closest thing to a locker you'll find although it is by no means a replacement for a true locker.

TruTrac or Powr-Lok. I have a TruTrac up front and I'm very satisfied with the unit. It's not a locker. But, I didn't want a locker up front. It's simply the best LSD available.

Powerlock is the best unit if on a budget because they are cheap on ebay and can be setup to do whatever you want especiallly if you add an extra disc and pre-load them if you want to be close to a locker. No experience with the Trutrac, but probably the best option if no budget and you are worried about disc wear.
If you do a lot wheels up in the air wheeling, only a full locker will satisfy you but a posi can get close.
If no budget, go selectable.
