Naw, go find one of those dollar stores, it's there with the cheap brake & engine cleaners.

WD-40 is often used to start diesels after they have run out of fuel. It can be super compressed and ignited. The compression ratio in a diesel is much higher than your jeep and so it probably won't work in your car as a starting spray...Why not just get some ether based starting fluid? Better yet, why not tune that carb and timing to start without it smile.gif

WD-40 doesnt have much Ether in it. Not nearly as much as B-12, and your other carb cleaners do. I prefer B-12 because its not just pure Ether.

I'll do you one better, cheap mist bottle, gasoline, spray in intake....voila, non engine damaging starting fluid.

BTW this post was in no way meant to be smart Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogleyed, just reads that way.

Yup, I've used WD-40 in the past as starting fluid. It works ok, better than pouring gas down the carb. The real thing doesn't cost more than WD-40 though.

On a side note, I did see a guy ruin an engine by using some nitro-methane (I think) from a remote-controlled car as starting fluid. BIG backfire, then knockknockknockknock...

That smart feller was my Dad, I was about 17 years old, and the car was my new (to me) '73 Mustang, 351 Cleveland. I remember so well, it was my first engine swap...

heh, my step dad runs a road construction business, and other big state/county projects contractor. There was a new guy on his crew, one somebody told him to go start the D9 Cat. Well it wouldent, so a guy said to spray a *tiny* bit of ether into the air cleaner, then try again. Well the guy tried it and it still didnt start. So he POORED ether into the air cleaner. Then he goes to start it, and KABOOM! He was fired shortly there after.

Just a note, WD-40 no longer has a flammable propellant, they changed to CO2, perhaps cuz it was so much fun it light it and burn stuff, oh well.

All you need is a splash of gas in the carb and It'll fire up

I have tried it in lawn mower engines and it never works. Dont know if it is true but I have been told it works well in 2 strokes.

Cool, seemed to do the job for Bohunks, just didnt wasnt to keep using it if its a bad thing. I heard on here the other day starting fluid is bad for the carb...shouldnt need either anymore smile.gif
