sending unit

i replaced the gas tank on my 79 j10 with a gas tank from a 78 chevy complete with chevy sending unit because my old unit wold only read 3/4 full when i would fill up and the new tank is larger so how can i get the sending unit in the new tank to work? also does anybody know what voltage the sending unit use. thanks

The GM sender will read backwards on your AMC's gauges; GM uses a linear 0-110 Ohm scale, while AMC's use something like a 180-70 Ohm scale, from empty to full.

You could adapt an aftermarket gauge that reads the Chevy sender, or fit a gauge from a GM vehicle that might work in your app.
