Ooh...if only I'd caught the little schmuck. Stole ALL FOUR of my center caps...in broad daylight while I was at the grocery store. I am FUMING here!!! Really aren't any other FSJ's in my area...my guess is they will be sold for meth. OMG am I ever pissed off. Those will certainly be fun to try to replace...

Sorry to hear that. Why do people do that!?!
You're probably right on the meth part. Our friend, a MN police officer, is always telling us about meth related info. Man is it growing fast! I was just noticing all the METH WATCH signs going up in and around our town.

Oh I know I'm right...

Try living in the meth manufacturing and distribution capitol of the entire planet...San Bernardino County, especially the desert areas. Yea, its bad. REAL bad. Has been for a couple of decades. We got tweekers everywhere...glad I live in the sticks...

I am soooooooooooo freakin' angry.....

That'd make me pissed, I'd share in your feelings there.
Next set you get, use a different srew for each hole..one hex, one torx, one slotted, one phillips..I think I'll do that to mine once it's road worthy..
For what it's worth I might have two spare caps around here someplace, 1989 Waggy right?

IN reference to your choice of nomenclature: Are you Yiddish? :D

All kidding aside, the only reason why I have stopped using my flamethrower on thieves here is I'm afraid the meth they contain will make them explode, and the resultant concussion to perhaps cause me to spill my beer. And the fuel for this beast is getting to be kinda pricey.... :D

Check pawn shops and file a police report. Watch ebay, too. You'd be surprised at what the police DO recover. Good luck. Thieves SUCK. :-(

Sorry to hear this Annie! Thieves royally tick me off! Hopefully the dirt ba that nabbed your caps will get caught before he/she steals anything else.

06-02-2006, 09:12 PM
Wow, that sucks. At least those caps are not too hard to find. You should find those crazy torx screws and screwdriver that have the little nub in the middle, like on the lock for the rear window, nobody will get them off then. I can't believe people would get into such a destructive habit, it's so disgusting, how could anyone get into that? I haven't seen it coming around here, just lots and lots of pot. If meth labs start popping up here, I'm going vigilante and popping off all the dealers in the face before they get established. God I hate druggies, such a huge waste.

I remember when I was at 29Palms, at least a couple times a year you'd hear about tweekers sneaking onto base searching the ranges for unexploded ordnance so they could pull the aluminum fins and such off. You gotta be on drugs to to pull the tail section of an unexploded 81mm mortor round so you can scrap it for $1.25. Scum of the earth if you ask me.

I go to college in Riverside (at the UC) So yeah...I know your pain about the tweekers. The whole university area is trash. I've been into San Bernardino, too. :eek:My oh my! The problem in Riverside is there's a lot of abandoned neighborhoods, so it's easy to hide the fact that you're cookin' in your backyard from the non-existant neighbors!

Hey Big Rob: Ever see the movie Buffaloe Soldiers...?

Awww...thanks you guys! I am still just steamin'. I just put about $500 into her...and now this.

So, please PM me, and let me know how much you want for the center caps you all have? Yes, they are for an 89 GW.

DrLocke, I'm not Yiddish, I'm German...:D

BigRob, I've heard about those idiots in 29P too, but now they've moved onto copper wire, they're stealing it out of houses under construction and trying to get bux from the recycler. They just busted several tweakers out here doing that!

DonHS, be happy with the pot. Its pretty harmless when compared with meth, I wish that was the extent of what is considered a problem around here!!

HectorHeadGear, come on up the hill to Victorville or some areas of Hesperia...at about midnight when they all wake up, get a fix and start popping outta the woodwork! Berdoo ain't got nothin' on some of the places in the desert. Anyone ever see the movie "The Salton Sea?"

Yep, people like that actually DO exist, in fairly high numbers. They steal from their own Grandmas to get dope. Idiots...

Unless there is someone else who is going to use them on their jeep, I'd check all the pawn shops in the area. You could be able to buy them back at prices that are a steal! ;)

I have 2. I broke the heads off every screw getting the first one removed.

Then the screws bit back on the second one.

Yea, I did. There was a VAN parked next to her...so we couldn't see a darned thing. Dawggone tweakers, I wish they'd just all move to Adelanto, where the rest of them are!

AnnieL

OK, what size of those screws like the ones on the tailgate lock would I need to put on center caps, and where in the heck do I go to find them?

I don't want this to happen again...

Can't help you on the size, but you can get them from McMaster Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com) Do a search for screw, then machine screw. It will them show you the head styles available. They call it "tamper resistant pin-in-torx". I'd link the page for you, but they make that impossible...

Annie- that sucks. Sorry to hear it. I'm in Riverside, and I worry about my 715 in the street constantly. There's a crack house across the street where the tweakers stop at all hours of the night for their fixes. As a result, we basically sleep in shifts here to keep our junk infront of the house.

On the screws, just go to the ol Home DePot to find out what thread you need before popping for the high dollar ones.

Ooh...sorry yer going thru that. Aren't they just awful? It it isn't sunk in concrete or they're not looking down the barrel of a gun, they'll steal it...I don't care WHAT it is...Sounds like Adelanto....I have a friend goin' thru that there...she can't even sell her house to get away from this mess (who would buy it...with a "shooting gallery" across the street?) I have a surveillance system for my house...if I don't catch 'em, the cameras will. It helps that my hosue is in a rural area, away from most of this.

These screws...that have that torx head, are THE answer to my problem. Some tweaker would go nuts trying to get those off :D ...I'm better off going to Ace hardware or Lowes here, our Home Depot pretty much stinks, LOL.

Thanks.

Sometimes I think the only reason they don't mess with the truck is cause they see me out there literally all the **** time pounding on something, cursing at something, or welding something else... That and it's OD. lol.

Heh, well go wherever you feel best about then. LOL. I agree, it'd drive em nuts. I think better still would be to use different ones like someone mentioned. The old Square headed screws I think are just as rare as the tamperproof torx.

Annie only problem I see with those screws are...
You can probably get them on just fine, but someday when you goto remove these, the special torx screwdriver bit for these are weak...they can break easily...

We were wheeling near 29 Palms and met up with a ranger. He told us that they saw a nice motorhome in a kinda weird spot in Joshua Tree. It turns out it was a rental. These tweakers rented it and used it as a mobile meth lab. It's a huge problem in Vegas as well. I live in a small town that has a huge police presence (which can be annoying at times) AND a real low crime rate.
