checking float level dry

i am going to dig into the carb this weekend to see if i can find where my fuel is going. is there any tips for for checking the dry level of the float? there was a picture of a cool little tool to check the height that was in the service manual. where can i find one? thanks

Don't know what carb you have, But if it's a Rochester 4 barrel, you might have leaking welch plugs. A quick clean and seal with JB weld will solve that problem.....

The plastic venier caliper that Stanley (?) sells has a depth gauge built-in that works great.
