Must be coincidental http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif When my engine went last march, it tossed #1 http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/wink.gif

Prevention? Well, off the top of my head, check your oil daily, make sure you're using a good quality oil of at least 10/30 (synthetic is a good thought) Install a good (mechanical) oil pressure guage (the one in the dash is for entertainment purposes only) and keep a close eye on it, if something changes, turn off the engine, find out why!

Just some thoughts, I'm sure there will be better ones...

Oh, and if I recall there was a website from one of the AMC car lists that had modifications to improve oiling on the AMC engines.

i think i remember seein a amc page dealing with mods to the oil passages. seems the back cylinders were starving for lube.was on the same site as the new timing covers IIRC.

Here's one: http://pub8.ezboard.com/famcforummodifications
www.froadin.com (http://www.froadin.com) is another good one for AMC tech.

Having never thrown a rod on a 360 (knock on fake wood) I would have to say that Vavoline 20w-50 and an accumulator work well. My poor engines get red lined a lot in low range. Another thing I have noticed is when oil pressure does start to drop off, drop the pan and throw in another set of rods and mains (bearings)and it will come right back up and stay there a couple more years.

AMC MILLS HAVE ALWAYS HAD A PROBLEM W/ STARVING FOR OIL AT HIGH RPM'S...ROGER PENSKE SOLVED THE PROBLEM W/ THE 390 BY USING A SPECIAL BAFFLED OIL PAN AND DRILLING THE RTURN GALLEYS SO THE OIL CAN GET BACK TO THE PAN INSTEAD OF HANGIN' OUT IN THE VALVE COVERS. I THINK AN ACCUMULATOR IS ABOUT THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD FOR ANY ENGINE...ESPECIALLY AN AMC V8...AN EXTRA RESERVE OF OIL CAN'T HURT CAN IT????
