After inhaling fumes for the past year, I am having a steel tank made to fit in the stock location. The stock tank "vapors" constantly, and I have been unable to find the source. I have been messing with it since I bought it, and figured this will be a major improvement all the way around. I had to make a mock-up out of cardboard, then take exact measurements. I have to give credit to AMC - the stock tank used every square inch of possible space. I will definately lose a few gallons.

If anyone is interested, I have a rust free gas tank cage/skidplate. Even the original insulation pad is in good shape.

Hey cliff,

I am interested in the skid plate, if it is avalible. Like andy said check the
grommet on the roll over check valve(s) I know I need to replace mine
come this spring, I can't run a 100% full tank or it leaks from there.

Hey what year is this tank? I'm interested in the whole s/u if I can use it to replace what I got in my 79 cherokee.....my poly tank on my 88 wag did the vapor stink thing once, turned out the rubber lines to each valve on each end of the tanks topside were bad, once replaced problem was gone....

All hoses were replaced, and I sealed the vapor lines on the tank with silicone. Still smelled. I was really baffled. I even pressurized the tank with air, and could not find any leaks. Mdill, I will contact you about the skid plate.

Is there anything inside the poly tank? There seems to be something moving around inside, and it's not the float. It feels something like the honeycomb inside a fuel cell, but it's not stationary.

Chief, the tank is an 81. Mdill asked first for the skid plate, but will let you know if he doesn't take it. Are you interested in the tank only? You can have it for the shipping costs. I will look into how to purge it for shipping.
