I am new to this list but have had a number of Jeep products over the years. I am now looking at an 82 J10 long box that originally had dual fuel tanks. The current owner removed the tanks (left the plumbing) and has a tank in the bed. I have an 82 J10 shortbox parts truck with a good tank but have not seen a dual tank arrangement. Is there a source for new tanks. This vehicle will be used mainly for work around the house and to tow my 67 Marlin and/or my 57 Willys FC150 to shows/events so the dual tanks are desired. Guess I will have to fabricate a receiver hitch for this also?

Thanks

Wayne

There's a similar question somewhere on this site regarding plastic replacement tanks. Writer was referred to www.mtscompany.com/index (http://www.mtscompany.com/index) or www.browns-of-tworivers.com (http://www.browns-of-tworivers.com) Also, J.C. Whitney lists a few tanks for Jeep. Might check the tech forum on this site as well.

Wayne, I'm not aware of any aux tanks installed at the factory. They aren't in the dealer brochures nor are any aux fuel tanks listed in the parts books.
I'd suspect yours may have been dealer installed where they would have farmed the truck out to a local shop using whatever brand that shop happened to use. Or more likely it was later installed by the owner or again at a shop.
Check with a local travel trailer/RV dealer. They either sell/install aux tanks or will recommend a shop to see whats avail for your truck.

...by the way, I have a flair side short bed with a plastic tank which has a small crack. It's patched, but I'd like to replace it. Not sure if it's the same tank as for standard short bed or not. Would you be interested in selling the one in your parts truck if it is compatable?

This is not the first time I have heard of dual tanks in a J10 so I have to assume it was a factory option of some kind. Probably as part of the camper package. I checked with both the companies posted in an earlier response and they only have tanks for up to 79.

Hey Wayne, I got a aux. tank in my '79. It is made out of aluminum. It was not a factory option. It holds forty gallons and is mounted inside the bed near cab. Dimensions are around 4'X 1.5, just a guestimate.
HTH.

My Sportside had the aux tank.....it was some kind of rig!!! I think it was a factory add on option that the dealer had to install but it isn't pretty. I took it off and still have the tank and pretty much everything else that went with it. It fit under the cab on the drivers side as to add to the sagging problem already associated with the vehicles. :D

Bandit -- how did you fill this aux. tank?
