OK, so this is not on my cherokee, its on my YJ. But I want to know whats up with me and my u-joints. When I first got my YJ about 5 years ago it was all stock. The rear driveshaft ujoints were wore a little bit. So I replaced them. The old ones were not hard to come out, and the new ones were not hard going in. Long story short it kept getting worse. The caps would spin in the driveshaft and the ujoints would last hardly a month or two before going out. I mean the needles would turn to dust, greaseing them didnt help any. I could just push the old joints out with my fingers, and push the new ones in. (Oh yea, this is stock height, no lift) I find a good ford 8.8 for it cause the old d35 was wore pretty good (a good bit of slop) and to get rid of my wore out driveshaft I decide on a jb conversions SYE kit. I order it from tom woods along with their top of the line CV driveshaft. Put everything in and its all good to go. That was about 3-4 years ago. Fast forward to now. The cap on the ujoints are spinning agan! Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley!!! I kept it greased. Allmost all the caps of all three joints appear to be spinning. I went to the parts store and picked up 3 new joints. I was gonna put them on just to see if mabey its the caps wore and not the shaft itself. I pull it out and take the clips off the rear joint and I can just push the cap out with my hands. I look at the needles and they look fine.I tried one of the caps of the new joints and they slide in there easy too, So I just put it back together and greased it real good and I am just gonna run it untill I can afford a new driveshaft. D***IT Why me? I have seen ujoints from 60's model jeeps where the needles are just nothing but rust, but the caps never spun. And now that I think of it, I have never see a driveshaft do it except for mine. Its been stock height the whole time and the pinion angle is correct. What gives?
Just had to vent a little:mad:
