My 64 J-3000 has a spring over axle setup and had originally a rear mounted steering box with a belcrank setup to a crossover rod. The question is when exactly did the factory change to underslung springs with the forward mounted steering box? I have owned this truck since 81 when I purchased it from the original owner. The truck showed no sign of ever being modified before I got it.

I don't know about the steering boxes but the front springs were SOA till 73 on the trucks.

Ross steering was used till 66 or 67 I forget, after that they went to Saginaw and used it till the end of production.
