Well my other thread got a little out of order so here's a fresh bottom up thread on my "jeep". ;)

Well it all started about a month ago... I was rebuilding the rear suspension (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=475079#) on my FSJ Truggy and decided to bob the frame. With the frame bobbed 20" I had to rebuild the back half of my cage. The front was not very esthetically pleasing. So I went ahead and cut it off too, that way I could re build it. Then I was thinking about it and thought how nice it would be to lower the seats a little to give my self some more head room, so I cut what was left of the floor pans out so I could move the seats about 3 inches down. With the floor pans gone I decided that I wanted the motor (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=475079#) moved back about a foot, so I cut the fire wall and the rest of the main cage off... So here I am with a bare frame. http://www.pirate4x4.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

So... here is the half Assad, ugly POS I started with http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/smilies/puke.gif

Then it turned into this http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/smilies/laughing.gif

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/8118/im0007466zb.jpg
Than this http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/smilies/idea.gif

THE PLANS:

Axles
Dana 60 front Detroit and 6.17's
Dana 70 welded and 6.17's

Suspension
4 inch Rusty's leafs with a spring over front
4 inch Rusty's leafs turned back wards with the over loads removed and shackle flip

Steering
full hydro with single ended ram and high steer arms

Drive train
AMC 360 moved back 12 inches
AMC 727
NP-208

Body/Cage
complete tube body much like the formula toys using the original frame rails
1.5 HREW with .120 wall tubing.

Now, the goal is to not half *** it and not cut any corners if it needs it or I want it. Than it's going to be done that way. plus I have quite a bit more income than before.

this should prove to be intersting.

why do you want a 4" spring+a springover? one of the cool things about building something from scratch is you can build it around the tires you want to run so you dont need 11+ inches of lift.

something for you to consider before you start bending tube. a low center of gravity is good on most trails, and a SOA with flat stock springs will preform quite well.

my 2 cents thus far,carry on :)

I'm going with 42's and am going to take one of the leafs out of the pack. my guess is it will sit about 10" above stock hight. the motor is getting moved back a foot and down 2-3 inches. so the cg should be fairly decent.

But you dont have a body, so an SOA should be plenty, plus with the added lift fromt he bigger tires, you will be closer to 16" higher than stock. Moving the engine back is nice for an even weight distribution, however, make sure your rear drive shaft doesnt shrink down too much.

As you see the rear in the above (middle/bottom) pix is how tall the rig will sit with the 4" lift and soa/shackle reversal. not to tall.

looks tall to me,but its your rig so build it how it will work for you on your trails.

my scout II is SOA on flat springs and its alitte taller than id like it to be at that. i know i wouldt want to be 4" higher.

Well I have been moving and have not been able to do much work lately so not much to update. I did get the motor moved. It is 10 inches back and 3 inches down. Sits very nicely inside the frame rails, plus gives me tons more room for the radiator and a lower hood line!

also the camera got broken during the move so it may be a while till I can get some more progress pix.http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif

Hey, I just noticed that you are in Keller... I am moving to Haslet next week... How about a first hand look??

BTW.. I am considering a local Cherokee that REQUIRES a cage  But if you have a bender, some time, and like beer.. :D Well, you get the idea...
