I just discovered someone selling a clocking ring for the NP208, and was thinking of slapping it on for a little better driveshaft angle, and to give a bit more room to be able to run dual exhuast with the drivers side pipe running above the transfercase.

Are there any downsides to clocking the 208 down a little? Am I going to mess with the fluid levels or anything?

I hope to make a custom crossmember to support the trans, so I dont loose any ground clearance, or need to notch the stock crossmember to clear the driveshaft.

Thanks

Ben, I'm not sure how the xmember for your 700R4 worked (stock FSJ or custom?). Might be a little different for a GM208 but with my Dodge208/TH400 combo I had to notch the xmember pretty good with the SOA (about 7").

IIRC the oil slinger on the 208 rides off the input shaft so that will not change position when clocking it down, but the fill hole might go lower and that may bring into play some things that need to get dealt with. The shifter linkage is also going to clock with it so there's another mod to play with.
I didn't do a lot of research into the clocking ring back then as the guy that was selling them on Ebay was pretty sure it would not work for me, but I think it's a pretty common mod for the 208/241 tcase folks.
