Going to run a Dana 70U in my Cherokee. Anyone here running one? Looking for info on the 70U's from Ford vans. Really would like the WMS-WMS on them. I believe the Ford pickups have a 65" WMS-WMS. Vans are going to wider. Would like the rear to be a bit wider to match the front 69 WMS of the front dana 60. Also would like to have some room to clear the calipers on the leafs with a rear disc conversion.

BTT.....
I've got my eye on what I think is a D70 because of the massive drums.....seems like D60's aren't as big --- is this right? Are there many aftermarket parts for them? Where is the axle id located on a Dana 70?

Dana 70's have the same in aftermarket parts as 60. You can get pretty much what you want as for locker/gear choices. Some 60's have huge rear drums. First place to look for a BOM is hte ID tag bolted to the diff cover. Id pull an axle shaft before you buy if you dont have an ID tag. Since almost all FF 60's have the 30 spline. if its 35 it should be a 70.

I've read that some 70's had 29 splines....any truth to that?

Believe there may have been a few odd balls early on, and the 94 up Dana 70's in Rams have 32 spline. Thats why you should always pull a shaft and count the splines.

Yeah I just spotted the axle at the boneyard on Saturday (got a taurus fan) but didn't have enough time to pull the diff cover or anything. Hoping I can get back before the weekend. It's in an '84 2wd 1-ton Dodge.
