Hey guys I have access to a rear Dana 44 out of a 93 grand cherokee if my memory is correct this a 44 with out all that aluminum crap inside. one problem is I was thinking about swapping it with. With AMC 20 in my J-10 I know Will have to do some good suspension mods. But not sure it will owrth my time or if Ishould just get one that will bolt right in. An if I do this swap what hubs can I put on the front 44 on my truck so the bolt patterns match. This Cherokee I have also has a good engine and tranny and the tranny in those can be trouble but the 5.2l is strong and ready to roar thinking about swaping that also

The rear d44 in the 93 grand cherokee is much narrower than the j10 amc20. if you did find a way to fab it in past the wide j10 springs, it's gonna look a little funny. i don't think it would be worth the time and expense.
hard to tell from your avatar. but, looks to be a nice looking 80 or later sportside j10. if you want beef that will be a direct bolt in, 80 and later j20 axles will work. that's what i did.

I second J10Mikes idea

You may not be aware, but the AMC rearend in FSJ's is NOT the weak version found in the CJ's that gets the bad reputation for the 2-piece axle design. All FSJ's with the AMC rearend in the early-mid 80's had one-piece axles in them and with that being said, they are more or less equivelant to a Dana44........so I don't really see the point in doing the swap. Its not unlike the whole Dana44/GM 10-bolt fiasco with the Chevy crowd. If you're going to spend money on axles and want something stronger than what you have that will bolt right in, J20 3/4 ton truck axles are a great idea. You get the bigger brakes on the 8-lug dana44 front and a fairly strong Dana60 rear. And you can usually pick up a pair of these axles for a few hundred bucks. any more than $400 for the pair is to much IMO.

whatever you decide, I hope it works for you
