Well, I finally got my wiring harness fixed and all the wires back into the Cherokee.

I only have one problem. I'm not sure which way the positive and negative ammeter wires connect to the instrument panel.

For instance if the positive wire connects to the terminal closest to the drivers door, or the passenger side door.

It works both ways... perhaps it doesn't matter? If someone could take a peak under their dash for me I would really appreciate it. I don't wanna fry my wiring harness again! smile.gif

you will injure nothing by trying simple way to tell hook wires up and turn on the headlights if it shows charge it is backwards

I tried that, but my amp gauge doesn't seem to work very well smile.gif I even started it up to see if it would show a charge... is it possible for the amp gauge to have been fried, when the wires were fried? Or, perhaps my alternator is fried too!

This would be a great time to by-pass that ammeter! They cause much more trouble than they are worth (Just small stuff like fires & burned out wiring harnesses)

Just by-pass that thing an put in a voltmeter.

It's not only possible, but probable, that you have a fried ammeter. In fact, it may have been the root of your problems. Put both wires on one stud and don't worry about it again.

Sounds like a good idea! Thanks for the help.
