Reently went to moab with a frind for some wheeling. The trip was great. The first day we were their, the quadra trac started to make some bad noises so we spent the rest of the day tracking a new t-case down and installing it. Other than that i only broke the fan shroud somehow, the power steering pump started to whine like crazy, broke some exhaust pipe mounts, my brand new windshield wiper motor stopped working in the middle of a down pour on I-70, and on the way home all my light started to flash on and off at a consitant steady pace (i have no idea why). BUt i still did some great wheeling. Here are a few pics of Metal masher and the Dump Bump. Il try and get some more when i get them from my friend too.

Colin,
I see you didn't get your front gears welded. Are you still going to weld them?
How did the tires hold up? I bet you wish you had my 38 TSL's there huh?
It looks like it was a blast!!!
I can't wait to go next year! I am pretty sure I will be ready. Hopefully we will have at least 8 FSJ's there next year at the same time. That would be cool.

We took the wrong way to Widow Maker so we got to the obstacle from the top and my friend that i was with did not want to go down it in his TJ. Since it was late we decided to skip it. I definetely would have given it a good try though.

No i never did have enough time to weld the front end up but i definetely will be doing so. The tires held up fine but i will hopefully be getting some 38's shortly :D Im all for another trip out there next year!

Did you make it up that rock hill in the pics? That looks wild. Maybe someday I'll get a chance to go see this place. That poor little TJ looks lonely by it's self.

Gave the dump bump 2 tries before my fan shroudd shattered and the last piece holding my exhaust in place somehow broke, causing the muffler to rub my rear driveshaft at that angle. I took off the broken shroud but didnt have anything to tie the exhaust away from the driveshaft so i just called it quits. On the first try i was too far to the left and about middle way up i lost traction and slid backwards to the bottom, causing both front tires to come off the ground....not a good feeling. The second try i made it a little further but then stuff started to break :( Oh well ill do it next time for sure!

Ya that TJ was part of some other group up there...a group of rental jeeps. It was entertaining watching them do the trail and damage the rentals.

Plan on coming out for Ouray and dropping the Jeep off in Utah. Then I will be moving/flying back out in August for good.

Y'know... not ALL the trails in Moab require being at crazy angles! The scenery makes it worthwhile even if all you do is drive on dirt roads around Arches Nat'l Park! :D

Yeah Colin did. I didn't see a tow rig when I was at his house. For that matter, Matt, Flint, & Michael all drove to moab under their own power.
I am hooked on the pics. They are awesome. Michael are you going to make a DVD slideshow out of all the pics? That would be pretty cool.
I am definately going next year. I should have my lift done by this time next year and will definately attend. It just looks strange will all those doors out there... you need at least one J-truck OR a rhino grille to balance everything out. :D

I may compile the 2006 CFSJA wheeling season into a DVD... I still haven't sent out the DVD for 2004. How lame is that?
Here's some trail stories, rambling, and a short video on my blog (read from bottom up starting at Thursday):

Yeah man, drive yer Heep to Moab, get amped on the slickrock and drive it home. This is my 6th trip there like that. Had to change out the tcase there in 03, but was lucky to get someone headed there to bring me the 208. That was my first Poison SPider attempt. Only made it up the trail about 1/4 mile and locked it up. :D

Did you drive your Waggy out to Moab and back under its own power?
Yup sure did. THis was the third time ive driven it there. Took about 6 1/2 hours to get there from Denver. I went about 60-65 most of the way with the exeption of the passes where i could only go about 40 MPH maybe less . That ol' 258 doesnt do too bad though.

You misunderstand; that WAS the 2004 DVD... and I have a list of folks I have to mail it to, still (about 4 mo after it was completed... in Jan of 2006)
Anyhoo, would love to get more FSJers out next year. Since there's plenty of easier trails with great views those that might be hesitant from looking at the pics have nothing to fret. There's no reason not to split off and have some run the easy stuff, some run the hard stuff.
Mine's no trailer queen either. I insist on driving it to all trails. :D

I feel funny quoting myself but it really is the only way...
On second thought you should submit your blog and pics to FSJ mag for a story. Combine all the pics... Flint, Michael, Matt, & Colin under the heading "Moab FSJ's 2006". That would be even cooler than the DVD if you ask me. The pictures speak for themselves though really.

I can't get enough of that video Michael. Now when I'm driving next to a big wall or under a bridge I find myself listening to the exhaust more closely. I think I broke a mount out there though, got a new noise.
Still gotta get the front tire balanced, they gotta break the beads and try balancing them that way, too far out to add weights now.

Matt & emma

Ha, too cool... about the video, not the broken mount. Mine was idling real funny all of a sudden on the trail and we tore into it camp before leaving to try and fix it but couldn't. Played with it Sat am before the M&G. Acts like a vacuum leak, was running very lean, but couldn't find any leak with carb cleaner, so I rejetted up two stages and it ran a little better but still rough (as if the extra fuel was just compensating for a leak). Then went inside came out turned on again and it seemed to be fine... Anyway, that and a few other things to deal with before the next trail run... good luck with the tire balancing...
