Getting ready for a SOA. Replacing the front and rear gears. Here is the deal. It purchased a set of 4.27s from a forum member and one set has a 10 spline pinion and the other has a 30 spline pinion. I have a 1979 Cherokee with factory D44s. Do I have 10 spline front and rear yokes? Are they different? What do I need if there is a problem? I am a newbie when it comes to the drive line stuff. All help would be great!

in 79 you should have 30 splines on both pinions. youll need to scare up a 10 spline yoke.

also,id put the 10 spline pinion up front, since the 30 spline is going to be slightly stronger, and the rear will make better use of it since it will be doing the work most of the time(in most cases)

I am just pleased that somebody used the word "yoke" instead of "yolk"!! FINALLY!!!!!

Just did a search on the word "Yolk" in the tech forum. 35 hits!!!! Nobody was talking about eggs, either!

hmmm, wish i could be of more help there. id be willing to guess "old" ;) i have a set of 4.27s that i think are from a late 60s j-someting(i got em from gwamp) and it has a 30 spline pinion.

i would think the d27,and maybe some early d30s would share the same yoke?

to be perfectly honest, ive never heard of a 10 spline pinion till just now

put up posts here and in the "wanted" section at pirate 4x4. stuff cycles thru there so fast youll have to "BTT" daily, but i bet someone there will have one.

OK,here's a stupid newbie question. I've seen it used before on other boards,as well as here. What does "BTT" stand for? Thanks, and sorry for hijacking the thread ;)

Just to clear up some confusion:
10 spline pinions use yolks
30 spline pinions use yokes
