Drum to disk brake swap questions

I'm swapping one ton axles into my formerly 4 wheel drum braked J-4000. I was wondering if the stock braking setup would work all right with the front end now being disk braked an the rear being drum (for now).

If you still have access to the donor grab the proportioning valve, or you can get an inline adjustable fro the local parts house. Might have to go to a bigger master due to increased fluid requirements on the calipers and rear cylinders.

I did a front disc brake conversion on my "73 J4000. Would like to have gone your route with 1 Ton axles; however lacked the experience and funds, so instead, I used the same closed knuckle D44; added CJ-7 rotors to "81 Waggoneer spindles, calipers and (the part that might be helpful for you), I took the proportioning valve, brake booster and master cylinder form the Waggoneer as well, and bolted it all to my J4000. Have had plenty of stopping power. Will be putting "76 J20 axles under it next with a rear disc conversion. Used the backing plate from my "76 drums to make a "template" and managed to make a spacer to locate the rotor's under the calipers. Time will tell if it works or not.

I do have the power booster and master cylinder from my old parts truck, just no proportioning valve. Would one out of maybe a chevy pickup with front disks work?

Probally would work, but Chevy plumbs them in pretty weird, you would have to change a lot to make it work. I have one off a J10 and a couple off Wagoneer, if you want something that will more or less bolt in.

If it is absolutly needed, there is an 80's J-10 in the junkyard that I could steal it off of. My problem there is that it is out of town, I have no time, and it is covered (literally:eek: ) in cars.
