Some Full size Jeep Enthusiasts may not like or agree with my current project but dont feel alone if you are offended, MJ enthusiasts over at the NAXJA.org site are probably not going to like it either.. LOL!! :)

the Plan is to remove the Body from the '89 GW's frame and using the frame, drive-train (amc360,tf727,np208--swapped in for the junk np229) and d44s combine these with a Jeep MJ comanchee cab, with ported fenders, narrowed grill, chopped top and cage build a full-on trail machine on 39" Iroks (yeah i'll likely break the d44 shafts but it'll be fun and alloy replacements will give em the strength of 60s but will hella ground clearence...

Side view of some of the damage caused by a t-bone accident that the previous owner had thus he believed rendered the vehicle useless LOL, **NOTE-- no one actually died in the wreck..
In the pic above Notice the rear axle moved back about 8" extending the wheel base to 112".
Extending the wheel base was achieved by mounting the D44 to 63" Chevy 1/2 ton leaves and shackles, and extending the driveshaft...

-- about 5" of lift was achieved by a Shackle Flip and using the Chevy leaves.. the rear will likely raise higher when the body comes off but still ride nice and flex well..
--i removed/plazma-shaved the rear lower shock mounts because the are so low below the axle tubes, i will reposition them later when i flex it and see how much travel i need from the shocks. Also the rear trac-bar and mount were removed..

in front i'm using Rusty's 6" springs in Spring Under configuration, for simplicity and operation of the Stock steering components..

More pics as new developements occur: removal of the GW body, positioning of the MJ cab, Cage/slider build etc...

Stay tuned...

please dont cut up a nice mj...find a busted up one if you can unless yours is already pretty busted. I would cry if I see you cut up a nice mj as they are so uncommon/expensive around here.

Is the frame on the 89 bent? That last picture makes it look as though it is.

Sounds like it will be a neat project.

no,it wont. do yourself a favor and save the cash youd spend on alloy shafts and put it towards a set of axles that can handle the strain.

as for the rest of your project, sounds pretty cool. at one time i considered using a mj cab or part of a cj tub on my frame. :)

thanks for the advic Scotty,
--i know a 14b and a d60 would be supreme
but being that i barely have $500 in the whole pile of junk including the 50% tread 39" iroks i will spend my jack on the 44s,

~~Plus the whole light weight thing should help and iroks aren't as much rotational mass as their hevier brother the TSL =ing less axle snappage

only slightly bowed in the front where the front x-member hit a power pole (the passengerside impact knocked this FSJ off the road & into a pole, :o luckily noone died)

i'll cut out the front x-member when the body comes off and replce it with a real bumper..

the cowling is bowed upward about 2" and the inner fender is almost touchhing the passengerside valve cover, but Luckily the body mounting bolts Broke from the mounts on impact and neither of the frame mounts are even twisted and the frame is straight (or well, as its supposed to be)

What are you going to do with the '89 body?

What are you going to do with the '89 body?

i'll likely post it for sale in a local classified paper and *hopefully* sell it whole or in parts,

then after a week or 2 of it sittin on my scrap haulin trailer, whatever is left will go to the scrapper for some gas money along with all the other rusty iron i can toss on it..

i can't say it would good for much else,
+ the glass except the front windshield is all good and most of the driverside panels are good and also the tailgate,
- but the interior is crap being that the previous owner swapped it all into another GW and just tossed all the worn out seats and trim inside...

EDIT__ project on hold for now, going to New Mexico for a month for work,,, stupid job...
