View Full Version : York Compressor issues and questions
I had a rebuilt york compressor sitting around that came with an engine i bought. I was told it was only a year or two old when i got the motor. Found all the brackets and hooked it up for onboard air, and the clutch seems to draw as much amperage as i can give it without triggering :( anybody have a clue what's going on? I kept popping fuses so I hooked it up to a 30 amp breaker, and it trips that, and I got the mysterious blue smoke out of the 30 amp relay :( Am i to assume that the clutch is just fried? :-s

if you don't hear the clutch engage then i'd say yes. i hooked mine up with a simple hot and ground just to test it. once i touhed the hot wire to the battery i heard a very distinct "click" that told me the clutch was engaging.
nope. no click. just arch welding sounds if i try to hook it straight to the battery. i also noticed that the 30 amp circuit breaker is cooked.

yeah, i'd say it's toast.
mmmmmmm toast. do you know how much those clutches cost? i called the parts store and i thought they were quoting me for the compressor at first. a new one was like $240, and the reman was like 160 or something. i about died. the thing came with a 400 dollar motor. my room mate got a whole compressor for 20 bucks from the parts yard, but it has some crazy pulley on it. It's prolly gonna end up on my silverado. anybody wanna give me a clutch? :-p

I'm probably going to have one to get rid of in just a few weeks. I am doing the Sanden conversion that Spectre did to his GW. I ordered the parts last week and should arrive this week. The big question is that I am currently under the weather STILL suffering from the gout. I'm on my 6th different prescription.
If your interested let me know.

I got a brand new York clutch/pulley off of eBay for $35 or so. Seller was called kendeb13, might contact him..he deals in compressor sales and such.

why wouldn't you just get another york at your local junkyard (but test the clutch before you leave)? I got mine off a Volvo for $30 with hoses and I didn't even have to pull it.

I've never been able to find a York in the local yards that isn't complete crap or waaaaaay overpriced. Plus mine is a brand new CCI unit that I got for $35 too. ;)
