With a conversion to GM tbi, is it necessary to replace the wonderful non-gravity resistant 2-bbl intake? (Darn that thing is heavy.) If so, what do you guys recommend? Edelbrock performer? Does anyone sell an adapter for the 2 bbl intake?
Thanks,
Ken

You can run TBI with the 2bbl intake. However, it would be like trying to breathe through a straw. The 2bbl intake just doesn't flow well and your performance will suffer.
I'm about to put an Edelbrock performer on my 401 for the upcoming TBI conversion. The 360 in my CJ has a factory squarebore 4bbl manifold for the TBI on it.

Where can I get an adapter to allow the GM throttle body to mount to the edelbrock performer intake?

I used the holley adapter, but I have an extra adapter from a suburban. It's a 4 bbl to large bore TBI adapter. It's slightly wider bore than the stock SB chevy, but fits perfectly with the holley systems. Be warned that it is like 2" tall and has the option of running coolant through it (i guess if you wanted to warm it quicker? Iw ould never use it. It's a pretty clean aluminum piece.

I currently run my tbi with the stock manifold. It works, slightly more hp than the stock 2150 carb. I'm sure the edelbrock would flow better.

Are there any air cleaner / hood clearance issues with the tbi install methods (2 bbl or 4 bbl)?
I'm not sure it is just me, but I couldn't get my stock air cleaner to work so I got some cheapie 88-96? Chevy intake off of ebay. IIRC my stock one was too short to fit over the injectors. I plan on extending it to the fender for cooler air, as this is my "winter" setup :)

O2 sensor is good because then you can run closed loop. TBIs don't need a crank sensor for fuel because a crank sensor is only needed for sequential fuel injection.
As for a writeup...probably best to check customefi:

For nitty gritty details of a diy swap:

There is also a tech article on this:

happy hunting
I was halfway through doing a TBI swap on my Cherokee when I found out the bearings were shot and depositing a bunch of crap everywhere. The engine is back from the machine shop and ready to go back in. In a week or two I will be finishing the work and doing a big writeup. The write up will be going here: http://www.grimmjeeper.com/tbi/ but there's nothing there yet. Check back in a couple of weeks.

Also, do a search in this section as there has been a lot of info on this swap in the past year or so.
