on a 73 wag that had drums all round, is that box/splitter thing plumbed after the MC contain some sort of valve it it too? i have 4 wheel discs now (3/4 chevy axles) and my rears lock-up real early but the fronts don't. i was wondering if there is some kind of vavling the the box that is screwing with that or what? any ideas

It is more of a dummy light trigger to light up a bulb in your dash to check the brakes if a line loses pressure.
You should remove it, and install an adjustable proportioning valve.
(Cheaper/easier than plumbing one from a disc/drum jeep)
You should also install a disc/drum master cylinder if you haven't already?

You have to remove that valve, it is the proportioning valve, it restricts pressure to the rear so as not to have the rear lock up and come around while hard braking. I went with a Wildwood adjustable proportioning valve, however I also used a master cylinder meant for 4 wheel disc brakes as well.

i was thinking i should remove it and will, i also have a MC for 4 wheel discs already installed. only question is if it is supposed to restrict flow to the rear, why do the rears lock up with a touch of the pedal and the fronts never do (even on dirt they don't very well) also the front pads are loose and rattling around, there is no residual pressure on them like on the rears, any ideas for that?

It could be that the proportioning valve has shut the front off, or is stuck, or never opened during bleeding of the brakes. Pretty obvious as you suspect you are getting no pressure to the front at all. I would install an adjustable, fronts will be fed full pressure, rears will be adjustable
