transfer case chain is probably shot. you don't want it to break, as it may take out part of the housing as well.

not to overlook the obvious, your front driveshaft is straight right? I bent my front one and it would hit on the crossmember, make a knocking sound.

well i checked into it the uni in the front axle seem loose, but i can swear it sounds like it coming from somewhere else, it does not make the poping noise in reverse???????????
You running a quadratrac? The exact symptoms of a loosened chain is this.
At first it only pops (more of a clunk) when it is climbing very hard with lots of juice.
Soon, it will do it if you jump on the gas off the line on the street.
Soon, you won't be able to start moving the jeep without it popping a time or two.
To check, there is a little plug that can be removed to check the tensino of the chain with a screwdriver.
Replacement is a $89 part at Krage motorsports online.
approx 4-6 hours work for a 1st timer
Disclaimer: THe above applies to vehicles equipped with the BW 1339 Quadratrac chain drive, full time T-case.
Good luck, and DO NOT BUY A JC WHITNEY CHAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!They are big poo poo redface.gif :mad redface.gif
