Is it possible to convert a rear dana 60 to 6 lug without spending an arm and a leg?? If so what are the options??Thanks...

The axle flanges have to be re-drilled. And then you need to find some 16" 6 lug wheels. As 15" wheels wont work unless you go ith like 2.5" backspacing or something. The drums are bigger then a D44's (assuming your talking rear)

I'm assuming you're talking rear here. I'm also thinking you want to go 6 lug to match the front? Why not get knuckles off of a Chevy D44 on the front to make it all 8 lug instead. this seems to be the preffered method.

8 lug in the front isn't the issue, it's already done..I have 3 sets of wheels that are 6 lug..I have all the parts for the front to easily convert back to 6 lug..I also have all the parts and brackets to convert my rear 60 to disc brakes. So fitting 15" wheels will not be an issue..I have never done the conversion on the rear from 8 to 6 lug..It sounds like all I need to do is redrill. Thanks for the help..

as I said above, 15" rims wont fit without major grinding to the caliper on the D60.

jjk,
There was a thread on this last year linking pictures on pirate4x4 but I couldn't find it searching.
From what I remember, you machine the hub down to the diameter of the 6 lug wheel. You might be able to machine or home out a front 6 lug rotor to the same diameter, that way you don't have to re-drill 8 lug rotors. The flange is machined down also as mentioned and then lastly I think you have to use "hex" bolts because the heads of the original bolts interfere with the rim. Unfortunately, I going by memory on something from last year so it might not all be right but that's the "theory" of what I recall.

panther said it pretty well. youll have to turn down the hub/axleshaft to fit thru the 6 lug wheel, and either hog out the 6 lug rotor or mill down the rear as well,so the 6 lug rotor fits the hub.use allen head bolts so they dont hang over the edges of the axlesahft.

you should not have any major clearance issues with a 6 lug rotor, however, you will need new caliper brackets if yours are designed to use the 3/4 ton rotors. making the 6 lug rotor fit the 60 hub is worth the hassle,IMO,rather than redrilling an 8 lug rotor.

A few months ago i tried to make a 6 lug wheel fit a full floating dana 60. i machined down the hub as far as i could go without breaking into the axle shaft bolt threads. i then looked at my 6 lug rotor (6 on 5.5) and figured there was no way in hell to put lug studs through the hub and tighten them up because the OD of the hub was too big. to make a long story short, i ended up using 8 lug rotors instead of 6 lug. i would be really interested to hear from someone who made this work with a 6 on 5.5 pattern. maybe later dana 60s had a smaller diamter hub or something, but there was no way this hub would have worked with a 5.5 pattern. anyway, if you did this and it worked, id like to hear about it. thanks, zack worrell
