I recently had to have my engine rebuilt a 2nd time, 1st was only back last sept. The mechanic is telling me, from what the machine shop told him, that when the 1st rebuild was done it was done with a crankshaft for a std transmission. I have a 360 and I have not heard of there being two different cranks for the 360, is it true or is the machine shop full of it? I have not even had my jeep a whole year and have not put much more than 2k miles on it since I've had it.

so there should be difference in cranks though, I know there is a spacer for the th400, but I know that was removed on the 1st rebuild, not sure about the 2nd rebuild though. I had the transmission rebuilt right before the 2nd rebuild, which is how I found out the thrust bearing had gone out and ruined my crank causing the 2nd rebuild, right after the 2nd rebuild not 10 miles of driving after I picked it up the transmission goes out. I am thinking that someone screwed up something for this to happen.

10 miles of driving after I picked it up the transmission goes out this sounds like the converter was not seated in the front pump

Thats what the transmission guy said he thought it might be. Guess I'll find out tomorrow if he has been able to look at it today. Thanks for the info. Might be time to write some letters to the BBB.

Actually there can be a difference in the crankshaft itself between manual and auto version trannies. But the difference is usually so little we ignore it.
The difference is in the thrust bearing clearances for your center bearing cap. All about how the differences in how convertors and pressure plates push/pull on the crankshaft.
As for 10 miles after the rebuild, I vote on the convertor not being seated properly as well.
